Frustration on MPC

I just spent 3 hours on chopping up sample and trying to get sh*t right (smooth transitions etc..). Is this normal to be frustrated? I feel pissed off really pissed.

Yes! But if it was easy every one could do it.

ive spent like about 20 hours + on mine and havent made a song yet, but still figuring everything out... ive gotten some drums though

you get frustrated, then focusted, then really happy when it turns out how you want it at the end.

It took me 6 months before I felt like I could do anything creative. I have a full time job and kids but almost all my free time went into it.

sometimes it just takes time..

lol...u gots to chill...it takes time...i gaurantee you will look back at these days and laugh at how you got frustrated..we all do.

Thanks for the support lol. I feel much better knowing its normal. I made a few beats within 2 weeks of messing with it but its nothing spectacular.

just have fun with it...nothing instant is good: tea, mashed potatoes, coffee.....if you take the time to research, learn, and do the extra step, everything is better. Just enjoy it and if you're not feelin it cut the machine off

Or don't chop at all, turn it off, put it away and watch some Sponge-Bob.

Yes, it would take time, I still have to spend hours to get it smooth. I do know how to use my MPC, but if this is NOT the case for you, then you must learn your machine first!
I have to admit that I didn't like MPC-2000XL's OS, button layout and how function keys are assigned (the one still don't like is in sample edit mode, if you press edit twice, it'll trim the sample!) and it took me long time (a few weeks at least!) to become familiar enough to make beats.
Needless to say, I cannot over-empathize the importance of reading user manuals. It usually prevent users from spinning wheels.

Everyone who makes music thinks that at some point, whether they've been producing for 2 months or 20 years!

You've just got to streamline what you do and get the muscle memory working. At the point where the interface doesn't get in the way, you'll probably be much more creative because you won't have to think about what you're doing.
