MPC1000/2500 X-Large LCD w/modified JJOS

JJ evangelism aside... I wonder if fragmenting the user base at this stage is a good or bad thing?

It just doesn't make sense for me... to pay almost $200 for a pretty screen that comes with a limited OS.

Again, you really have to remember that primarily as things stand, this larger screen is being sold with the FREE OS installed, and is very much a massive upgrade on the standard free JJOS. Remember the OS2XL market is not massive, its a very small niche compared to people who are happily running the free OS (JJ or Akai versions).

Hence, this new screen is a great way to provide additional benefits to the majority of MPC1000/2500 owners and a great way to tempt Akai OS users into the world of JJOS.

And the money this generates will lead to more resources being put towards further development for 2OSXL users.

I know it must seem that every man and his dog uses JJOS 'XL', but that's really not the case at all. So while it may not make sense to you personally, it makes sense to the other (at a guess) 95% of MPC2500/1000 owners.

It's a wait-and-see approach with me, but JJ has enough equity built up with the end users for us all to be excited about it.

I understand what a lot of you are saying about going backword, but this is coming before the OS has even been released so we aren't sure what it is going to be. I totally understand that you "power users" will not want to go through a transition until you see the light at the end of the tunnel and that is understandable. But, there are a ton of us on the forums that produce for fun, much like playing a video game. When I finish making a beat, I usually just turn the unit off without even saving. Its just a way to get my mind of things.

It's like saying we wont buy a new Playstation 4 when it comes out because the controller may feel a bit different and dont want to buy new games. But at some point all the games will be available and we will see the need to buy one, and when we do we would realize what we had been missing the whole time.

IMO the smaller screen was limiting JJ with the OS update, so that is why he has started with the new OS utilizing the larger screen footprint.

how will future development of JJXL will be affected by OS128 and vice versa ? what can we expect ?

I think it's going about it backwards though. Your "average" user isn't going to want to do a mod like this, not to mention that it's gonna be a struggle to convince them of the value. I mean, NI mashine is 250/399.

I'm perfectly happy and productive with OS2XL (other than the crashes while adjusting settings while using note repeat. ) and I think both MPC stuff and JJ would sell a lot more product if XL128 worked on a standard screen. Let me fall in love with the features and workflow, pimp it out to my friends, talk about it on forums and play shows with it and then I'll be very temped to upgrade my screen and do free marketing for you too!

I think the new features in XL128 look like things I would use and I'd buy it if I could dual boot, but then again it seems like it appeals to the "hardcore" user. It seems the average user wants to make things easier to integrate with their DAW, not in-depth sample editing features.

I wonder if tempting the people who are happily running the free OS(who have never purchased a JJOS) with a free OS/large screen combo in hopes of a paid upgrade is a good idea.Seems like they made that choice before.Hope JJ gets a cut of the screen/OS sales.

Agree with all you said... I just believe JJ should finish tweaking the bugs in OS2XL like pads 5 & 8 not responding before we just give up and jump to a new screen and another free OS..

Yes I know there are a large # of people who have the free OS well why not drop the price of OS2XL and draw them in before jumping to another free OS that has limited features..

To gain more of a fan base of JJ impressive OS he should try to get them to try the fully functionally OS and give feedback before jumping to a big screen with less then big features..

I think you missing the fact that os128 project is initiated by mpcstuff and and not JJ himself. I wouldnt worry about JJ handling bugs in JJXL

what i would worry about is longevity of the os128 and future support...once mpcstuff walks away from the project JJ got no obligation or incentive to maintain the big screen OS...unless we can get support for it in future JJXL

Your website says 'Coming Soon' but then when you click on the click it says "Ships in 3-4 business days" availability. Do you actually have them in stock?

I am looking to pick up a 2500 and add the new larger screen. I can't write Maschine vs Ren vs MPC 2500 w/JJ-T2000 OS threads without actually owning all of them.
