Iv downloaded pretty much every demo out there and nothing is chopping very well.

I have a Sony sample CD where they STUPIDLY give 20 second WAV files with perhaps a one sec break between each sample.

The simple truth, is this a manual action or is their a good software that can accurately detect 1 sec breaks and slice it?

Or should I do this by hand?

Im assuming batch slicing is out of the question.

Do I need acid files? How do they store meta info in a Wav and can the MPC2000 read meta?

REAPER. it can even batch export all your slices to individual audio files.

sony soundforge can write such metadata into audio files. but the 2000 can´t do anything with this information. the only meta data it can utilize are loop points and such.

keep at it, youll get the hang of chopping after more practice.

i would recomend soundforge if your on a pc, or recycle after that.

soundforge is the best chopping tool ive ever used hands down.

soundforge audio studio is what i was mostly using- its only 50 bucks, the only drawback to that is that you have to manually save each chop as a new audio file, unlike the full version which is just called soundforge, that exports everything at once for you, like the above poster said about reaper.

I got the soundforge demo.

Can you point me along the correct path?
Will this work with Batch and all 20 files?

This is an example of a file, its 20 seconds long with 6 loops.
I need to slice them and export.

So far im bumbling along but nothing is doing a batch export.

Thanks!

your file contains media cues. have you integrated them? however, if a file contains cues it´s even easier for reaper to slice at those points.

EDIT: here´s a quick video doing it in reaper.

Ive been using propellerheads Recycle, I actually like the "Stretch" feature on this program but I take it since recycle has not been mentioned so far can anybody point out some advantages Reaper or Soundforge would have over Recycle?

well it is less expensive and more flexible. i was using recycle before and i think reaper comes very close (transient detection, batch export of slices, stretch, transient processing, dynamics, etc.)

the batch conversion is a little weird on it if i remember correctly. there is more than 1 way to set a marker up in soundforge, one of them is by highlighting a selection and pushing R for region, this puts two orange points at each end of your highlighted selection, and the other you can just push "M" and wherever the cursor is pointed it will put a marker there. these ones will be black instead of orange.

you have to make your marks with one or the other to get it to export properly. i havent used soundforge in about a year because i have no more pc, but after you select them, in one of the menus will be an export tab that you need to click.

i just downloaded the soundforge 10 pro manual. ill find a page number to refrence for you...

read page 93 and 94 for sure. they are key to chopping.

soundforge has a dope feature that when you highlight a selection you can turn on a "grid" view inside the slection, this makes it so you can see where the 4 beats are inside you selection before you chop them.

also the ; and ' key double and halve your selection, they are really useful when your trying to get chops done fast. just do this, double, halve, ect. then adjust the start and end points to the groove of your beat and you should be good to go.

i cant find the 'export each slice as a new audio file, but if you tinker around with it long enough youll get it.

if your using soundforge audio studio like i was for a number of years, after you make your chops using R or M buttons, you just double click in each region then right click and say copy, then go to file, open new project, and right click in that project, click paste and then choose save as and save it as whatever chop number your on. reapeat the process until finished.
this can get tedious, but i did it for along time and i still swore that soundforge was the best chopping tool out there. im certain that the full version has a batch export each region as separate audio file though.
