Okay, so I haven't been here in a while. But, i come seeking help.
My 2000xl has been used consistently for at least 3 years now with the same memory card and factory installed reader. Today, I tried to format a new compact flash card and now the machine won't recognize the cards.
I've tried with multiple cards and got the same result every time. The screen flashed 'not ready' as if there was no card inserted. The lights on the actual drive do light up and indicate when the card is inserted or ejected, but the operating system doesn't see it.
I have gotten it to work once, but I ejected and re-inserted the card and it went back to it's previous state.
I took the whole thing apart and checked the drive connections and they seemed solid. I can't figure out why my mpc will not 'see' the card. I tried searching the forums and google and came up with a lot of CF issues for the MPC2kxl, but most of those were 3rd party readers, and none quite fitting my description. I know a lot of you heads are brilliant technicians, so I'm hoping for some assistance.
I don't really know if this is relevant, but when I put that new cf card into my sp-404 it literally fried the power supply or something too, i don't know.
It's been a really bad day, somebody bring me some good news.
Edit- After consulting a couple of friends im starting to believe that a power surge may have killed my 404 and my card reader. Everything works on my mpc just as normal except it doesnt see the cards. the atapi device is shown and the drive lights up but it wont see the cards. does this sound like a fried drive? Is it possible to only fry the drive and leave the rest of the device unharmed?
