MPC 1000 as playback, some newbe questions

Hi all.

I have a new MPC 1000, Akai 128MB RAM, HD factory equipped, latest Akai OS (2.13), original Akai 128MB CF card.

I play in a rock band and I'll use the MPC to playback some complex SFX sounds and background noises (5 to 20 seconds ea.), either triggered by me from the MPC pads or MIDI pedal keyboard (Roland PK-5A) or by the drummer via MIDI (Roland Octapad). I know the MPC was not engineered for that, but thats what I have got (at an excellent price).


Q1: I cannot access the "MPC internal HD" from my PC (W7) via USB. I can see the MPC-CF card from my computer. I've read in the forum that it should be possible. If not I have to load some 45 samples from PC to the MPC-CF card and then manually load them from MPC-CF card and save them to MPC-HD one by one. Am I missing something?

Q2: I created an AUTOLOAD folder on the MPC-HD, removed the CF card. Nothing is loaded at boot. It works from MPC-CF card. Is that correct (haven't found anything in the manual about that)?

Q3: When I load a "Program", I always have to select the "main" button and select the program manually in the dummy sequence to be able to playback the loaded sounds. is there a faster way (live situations)? Should I save it as sequence or as "all"?

Hi Andy,

A1 It's the otherway around. Your mpc CFcard can be read on your computer. This way you can drag and drop (or copy-paste) your wavefiles (16bit44kHz stereo/mono) to your CF card that's inside your mpc.

A2 Autoload is nothing more then loading automatically when starting. So the files that have to be loaded need to be saved somewhere. The CFcard is a goodplace for that.

A3 I think it's bettere that you stick to 1 single program. This way you don't need to switch programs and 1 program is probably enough. You can load 4 x 16 (ABCD x 16pads) in a single program. Make shure every pad has a different midi note so you can trigger everything. Maybe it's also a good idea to mark you midi controller so you can easily see what sample to trigger.

Btw if you would read the manual you might find more ways of using your mpc in a band situation. Have fun.

Regarding questions 1 & 2, there is a mistake. I was talking about the MPC internal hard drive, not the hard drive of my PC.

That's strange. And you can normally use the HD without a problem?

If you hook up to a pc, go to the Load menu, press USB, and select the HD.

And for the autoload, did you copy the entire autoload folder to the HD? And did you select the right folder?
