MAJOR PT midi sync/tracking issues, help??

I'm having major timing issues when tracking out a beats from mpc 2500 jjos1 5.56 using MTC via digi002 console into Pro Tools 9.0

I used this guide to set up the mpc as slave using MTC, and worked easy as.

I'm tracking a beat i made solely in the mpc with bulk small chopped samples, double tempo (202bpm), 30 x 8(4)bar sequences all with about 22 tracks in each sequence. Also i have another similar note-heavy beat in song mode & barely any sample memory left ~1 minute.

There is HEAPS of midi data triggering the samples and i think this is causing my problems. I mean if i was just tracking a simple boom bap beat (kick/hat/snare/sample/bass) for example i think it would be ok. I probably wouldn't need to do multiple passes lol.

But while tracking i could notice mad jittering and skipping in the timing!
It will keep jumping back n forth to match sync, but whatever i spent countless hours sequencing in the mp is beyond ruined!

Im pretty sure it's a known issue and simply makes tracking with midi fkn useless to me.

This is the first time I've setup my mp to track with midi,
in the past i would just add an extra click sequence for doing multiple takes and do my best to zoom and realign. Looks like I'll just have to go back to this method.

And yes i added a dummy sequence at the beginning of the song-mode

The reason I'm individually tracking is to gain clarity in the beat obviously. You can only layer so many samples before your working with mud...

I was thinking of deleting all the tracks/midi data in the session to only use what i need to track out as many audio outs i have for each pass, as each time it's syncing its carrying all the notes I'm not recording along with it, but it's simply easier to use my old way of tracking.



So my questions...

Are the timing jitters a result of too much midi notes/data in the mp or because the mpc is doo doo with MTC?

Can I track out into PT using the MPC as the master, or does this defeat the purpose?

Is beat clock better?

Has anyone one found a fix besides this box?

I'm just pissed off really. Every session I'm pushing my 2500 to the limit!
Even when playing back some midi data heavy beats the box skips a beat here and there.

JUST GIMME A FASTER CPU AND OPTICAL OUTPUT FOR ANOTHER 8 TRACKS,
besides a quiet fkn data wheel and a new design for buttons!

Ah, you've noticed it's not a supermidi machine have you? Yep. it's true. That's what happens when you simulate a bunch of paralel hardware in serial DSP with a PDA engine that was obsolete in 2004.

Actually it does a suprisingly good job considering that, but it's all relative to how much midi you try to pump in/out of the thing at a time. You don't just need a faster processor thou, you really need an additional FPGA on the CPU board to get really good midi. It's just an old standard that wants to run thru real paralel hardware.

If you want a real hardware midi hardware sequencer you might have a look at the Cirklon with your choice of external pads and a rack sampler for all your tracking out options.

Of course the larger, no support option would be the MPC 4000.

Too bad the Atari Firebee isn't quite ready for the studio yet...
