Nym, do you have the answer to the question above regarding availability of the larger screens?

Yeah I notice last night when I was looking through the website, maybe it's worth sending Mike an email and inquiring. Could be that they are in stock and he hasn't had time to change the website.

Ok. Thanks.

I have my eye on a few eBay MPC 2500 auctions. I want to get the larger screen when they are available.

Edit - Got one. Now just need the new screen....

Sorry JAH, I was at NAMM in Nashville so no time to check this thread. The LCD screens for the 2500 will be shipping THIS week (Week of July 16).

Cool....I just placed an order for the new large screen and black fat pads for my 2500.

Awesome work mpcstuff and JJ, cant wait until we can see the finished products.

I for one am completely sold on a bigger screen and the OS that will go with it, and I am a MPC 1000 JJOS2XL user. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but just how many of you have any experience in coding? Its modular - this function depends on that function which also depends on those 4 other functions. If the basic functions are badly made then its much harder to make the later functions work.

The simple fact is you cant polish a turd and we all know how awful the vanilla Akai OS is in comparison to any of the JJ offerings. He has done a fantastic job of polishing that turd but I am sure starting from scratch will give us a whole raft of new features half of us couldn't even dream of, that in the future will be ones you simply couldn't live without.

But starting from scratch means it will take time. Hes only one guy and he clearly takes pride in his work, he wants things working properly before he puts it out in public use (if you know the back story, the whole problem with the vanilla akai OS is that it was released before it was fully finished). It might take time for an old feature to come back, but it will come back with a better build quality and probably more features. Its simple really, if you have to have an old feature that isn't there yet, don't upgrade.

He wont give up on making JJOS for MPCs without the bigger screen, because at best 20% of his customers will have the bigger screen. He might make you wait a little longer so he can work on the bigger screen versions, because he can charge a premium. But give the guy a break, hes not a charity - if you want a premium product you pay a premium price. And you KNOW it will be worth the wait

Same programmer :hmmm:

From what I understand he was one of a team of programmers. But its not quite as simple as that. Being contracted by a company to program, you don't usually have control. You will be given a remit - we want features a b and c. Dont give it d e and f, even though it is capable, we want to save that for our higher end products so we make more money. You have to stick to their way of doing things, even though you know you could program something far superior. You have to stick to their timeframe too. Most of the decisions are made by people who actually have no idea how to code and will probably never be a user of the product either.

I'm sure some of the refinements JJ has done (not talking extra features here) would have ended up in the akai OS had the original team not been messed around, they just never got the chance to do the whole process. Its like someone took that half finished track with that vocal you need to rerecord, didnt do any mixing and sent it to be pressed. The mastering studio can work their voodoo on it, but that vocal is never going to sound right until you get to do the recording again

Based upon your comments...fueled by speculation and one side of the story...you imply everything is cut/dry.

Did you know the first OS the 2000/2000XL and 4000 were not highly regarded...buggy as hell? And although the MPC 4000 forum is quiet lately, years ago the only thing it seemed people do was complain about the OS. Word on the streets he helped code those products as well.

How many of you actually use every feature on JJOSXL2?

i use less than half, probably, if you were to tally them all up.
the ones i use are the ones that i've tested extensively and FR'd the hell out of JJ for small refinements. this is why switching OS's is always a challenge, because it takes you out of your element. in the current 128xl OS, for example, the GRID is improved, but is still lacking a couple of pieces that i miss from OS2XL.

All I use is NDC

Last year, I had the JJOS installed on a MPC 1000. The only function that I used is NDC. I pretty mch used it like any other MPC. The MPC 5000 was in the same boat. It had numerous functions....most I didn't use.

My MPC 2500 arrives today and I will install the JJOS. I just received an email from MPC Stuff indicating my order was shipped (Fat pads, XL screen). Hope that included the screen and not just the pads.
