Sup. This may be a stupid question but does the MPC 1000 include an AD converter? I wouldn't think it would as its an analogue unit.

When your editing ur stuff in the mpc it's digital.
The digital audio out (spdif) bypasses the ad converter but your individual outs, main outs, headphone all pass through the converters.

Weird conclusion you drew there. Stop drawing conclusions

Ill-Green and Lampdog wrote:The MPC is a digital device, not an analog unit. Analog inputs and outputs, which pass through the ADC and the DAC respectively like Lampdog said, does not make a device analog. It's hardware with a software operating system or in the case of the new MPC, a proprietary hardware controller for software. Analog gear and hardware, though often interchangeable terms for some people when referring implicitly about analog units, aren't actually synonymous.

The above posts as translated by Google Translate.
I'm joking of course.

Silly me, I should have remembered the units 16/44.1 resolutions. Is anyone here in-fact bypassing the MPCs AD/DA converters and using something a little more 'high end'? At the moment I'm printing into my DAW via a DigiDesign 002(rack). Other forums totally rip on the 002 converters, although the units pre-amps are Focusrite so no real complaint there. I have been looking at the Lynx Aurora converters, but I think it's probably a tad overkill...

Thoughts?

If you truly want to stay digital then you can transfer the samples using the 1000's USB. Resample songs into one stereo sample and transfer over onto a track or tracks of your DAW. Or use the cf reader to transfer sounds.

But yeah, interface is the way to go and the only way to record realtime auditions from the MPC unless MPC Stuff and JJ get together and mod a full stream USB then that would be dope.

I would prefer to keep my chain analogue for as long as possible, but I was asking if you guys have had good results bypassing the MPC AD DA converters and using a 'high end' alternative AD DA system - either dedicated converters or a commercial audio interface with GOOD converters.

As I said, I was interested in the Lynx Aurora range but I think its total overkill, maybe the RME stuff is a better alternative in terms of budget.

:hmmm: Your 'chain' starts out digital... And it ends up digital too... So your best bet is to keep the chain digital all the way through.

Just connect your MPC SPDIF output to your 002 SPDIF input. That's gonna give you the best signal.

Both the 1k and the 002 have poor converters, so bypassing the converters on the 002 is only half the battle (same for bypassing the converters on the 1k). The best bet is to bypass the converters on both. So stay digital... Job done.

Good converters are EXPENSIVE...

I think this same way, it's the reason why I choose to go adat digital from 4k to audio interface in, into vegas or reaper (whichever I chose that day).

Incorrect. My chain starts out analogue and ends up analogue (phono DJ mixer START - Audio Interface Monitor Output END). I will definitely experiment with s/pdif and listen to the results. I agree the 002 is outdated and has shite ADDA converters, but if I start going down the s/pdif path then ultimately I'll be bypassing poor converters on both ends - so this resolves one issue. I could see the benefit of 'high end' converters if you were recording musical instruments and taking advantage of those converters, as opposed to merely re-printing audio from a sampler into a DAW.

Anyway, if anything happens here I'll prob just update my A interface.

Okay so you win on a technicality then...

Anyway, quality converters/interfaces help everything tremendously, re-printing included. On the A/D side, the effects of poor conversion accumulate with each track you layer. On the D/A side, the quality of the converter affects what you hear and thus affects your mix decisions, among other things.
