8 outs analog and adat optical I/O

I would like to know if it is possible to have both the optical outs and
the analog outs on the same machine. At the moment I have the 8 analog
outz that I use live but would like the optical to go directly into protools
for clean recordings..... is that the way to go?????

You can't use both boards simutanously. Unfortunatly.

If you want a "clean" recording in Pro Tools, yes the ADAT is the way to go, but I always found the 8 outs analog to have a warmer sound.

ok thanks for the tip... I think essentially, if you record the signal real hot
into protools from the analog outs, which is what I do at the moment, you can't really hear the difference.. I have a really clean console and don't suffer from ground noise so I'll stick with what I got...

it all depends on which d/a-a/d conversion you like better i guess...

I use the ADAT out into a 002. My philosophy is to keep the AD / DA generations to a minimum. The converters in the 002 are good, not great to my ears. So I bypass using the 002 converters whenever possible.
