The Nightmare Awakens? GRRRRRR

Ok, quick question here. As you all know, I thought my nightmares were over as I got a nice used unit. Though, this morning when I turned it on, I was greeted by an error message "Invalid FS on HD." Basically its telling me there is an invalid file system on the Hard Drive and was unable to access it. I turned the unit of then on, and never seen it again. I tried to power off then back on a few more times, but it never resurfaced. Has anyone had any past experience with this problem? Maybe the hard drive is on its way out?

You don't have much luck, do you? You could take the drive out, put it in an external enclosure and run some disk utilities on it via your computer, but TBH they don't pick up everything, I had a mac drive die recently and even a top of the range disk utility software was saying it was fine the day before.

I wouldn't get too concerned at this time, not until it starts doing it more regularly.

If its working fine now I wouldn't worry about it unnecessarily. From reading your posts the 5000 doesn't work seamlessly so as long as you have a work around for each nuance you're all good.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your feedback. And ABSOLUTELY, I have the worst luck known to man when it comes to anything electronic lol. But yea, I turned it off and back on probably about 5 or 6 times and have not seen this happen since. Throughout all the other MPC5ks I had prior, I never seen this happen before, and this was the first time I seen it happen on this particular unit. I did some research and seen that this was occurring with some individuals who tried to format their MPC HD through their computer via USB connection. Maybe if I temporarily move the data off the harddrive and format it using the MPC disk utility, this would clear this up for good. Do you think I should give this a shot, or just ignore that it even happened unless I see it resurface?

mpc5000 is the worst/buggiest/most problematic MPC ever... don't go against the forces of nature and just return that horrid thing already...

It´s a 5000 thing. Just back up your drive on a regular basis. Save your programmes on the flashcard and back that up.

I had that FS error a few times which dissapeared once restarted except for the first time. I had to reformat the drive. No backup, but luckily the programmes were on the flashcard.

Also expect your 5000 to freeze once in a while, so backup during sessions if your not already doing that.

While i think its a damn fun machine and creative powerhouse(mpc5000),my mpc4000 works like a charm.Never really gives me problems(and its built 10 times tougher).Food for thought.

do yourself a huge favor and buy a 4K. i've recently moved from 5k to 4k and couldn't be happier. goodbye bugs, hello better design.
