I notice that too, wonder how the screen n cpu would cope with adjusting chop start and end points while the sequencer is running...something I tend to do alot.

I cant verify that because, as with the 'standard screen' free JJOS, you cannot enter CHOP mode while a sequence is playing.

You can however do other things while a sequence plays, and there's no change in performance that I can see.

I'm going to install 128XL once I've had a chance to play with the free OS a bit more and do a bit of bug hunting.

But as I mentioned previously, the lag is really more down to the way camera record screens. I'm currently filming some tutorials and I can tell you that it's an absolute PITA to get the screen close-ups 100% representative of what you see with the naked eye.

Where did you put the contrast knob?

Currently dangling at the back. As I'm currently shooting video for the standard screen JJOSXL, I didn't want to drill the hole yet.

Is that part of your jjosxl guide? Still waiting on that :(

I'm assuming everything will be 99% the same with the larger screen too.

Sorry, bear with me on the JJOS tutorials, the first one's text is 95% finished but I'm still filming the video snippets for it, as it will be a combined book/video pack (subject will be chopping). Just have to juggle so much ATM - JJOS (now big and little screen versions), MPC Ren, new sites coming soon etc. It's going to be mental these next 6 months.

And no, the JJOS 128XL is a different OS - there a bit about that in this thread already, and Nym is running a beta testing topic in the JJOS forum with more details. I received my password for JJOS 128XL this morning so will be investigating it in more detail next week.

I understand that, but aren't most of the functions/interfaces more or less the same as JJOSXL (other than the larger window)? I recently got JJOSXL and a 2500 but don't want to invest too much time learning it if I'm going to get the larger screen and things are going to be totally different to the point that I'll need to relearn. I have not yet decided if I'm getting the larger screen yet because I want to see what direction the new OS will go in.

There are some differences with the 128XL, for example, chopping is done in Program mode, not TRIM. But yes, most of the modes are basically the same core but adapted for the bigger screen, but there are differences/improvements in some functionality as far as I can tell. But TBH I've not had a chance to sit down and go through the 128XL properly yet, I'll do that early next week.

IMO we absolutely need the old style CHOP back in TRIM, or crossfade loop/destructive chop created out of the new PGM mode chop system. in the meanwhile, i cannot fully adopt 128xl because i'll have to make my sample chop pgms in os2xl. i believe this will be resolved in future updates

Just stopped buy the post office on my lunch break...and found I had my MPC Stuff package awaiting

I'll be installing the XL screen, fat pads, and the 128OS tonight :!:

Question :?: Must the XL screen be installed prior to installing 128OS?

I have the XL screen installed and working...but the 128OS won't install. My MPC 2500 doesn't read it as a .bin file like previous OS. My load screen shows a '128OS' file but doesn't have the .bin suffix.

Update - I found a weird fix. I changed the name of the file from '128OS' to 'mpc2500_128OS.bin'. :hmmm: And it actually works now.

Here she is with the XLCD, OS128XL, and the fat pads. Its kinda late so I will drill and install the contrast knob tomorrow.

First impression....screen looks nice but the casing is easily scratched. The OS looks good...but I do wish I could change the font and show less params on the screen. I will start trying to break the OS tomorrow

We suggest installing the screen first then the OS ( you can see in the directions )

JAH is right, this will not be an issue for most. There were a few OS CDs that went out that for some reason didn't have the right OS name and the OS would not load. They are updated now and there will be no further issues with loading the OS. It was a problem with the software we burned the CDs with.
