There's no 40pin IDE connector on the mpc2000 classic motherboard. No.









There IS on on the 2kxl motherboard.

No, it won't work, 2000 Classic doesn't have IDE ports to begin with. Data management is 2000 Classic's biggest weakness, if you ask me.
No IDE port, SCSI port is located only outside (no internal SCSI port) and no directory support, which makes difficult organizing data files with using larger data storage.

I've said this before, but the best data storage solution for MPC-2000 classic is SCSI 3.5 inch M.O (Magneto Optical) drive. (M.O was officially supported by Akai. Even Akai used to sell SCSI M.O drives for S series samplers and MPCs.) I know it is hard to get it in the U.S (it was very, very popular in Japan), but it is super reliable and 3.5" M.O disks are actually cheaper than getting zip disks on eBay.
