But when I tried to install the contrast pot and screw on the bolt....my handling of the contrast pot caused the connecting wires to become disconnected. If the wire becomes disconnected..you will simply have a blank screen. And I don't think I can reattach it properly without splicing the wires a little which may shorten them. A short wire will cause installation difficulty as it may not reach the hole I just drilled. Damn....

can you solder in new longer wires for the lcd and the knob ? woud you say the wires should be tad longer from the factory ?

I ad my first experience with a solder iron changing out MPC 2000 tact switches. I don't have the confidence to fix the screen myself.

The wires are long enough to ensure proper installation. There is no excess. In the install instructions, it is recommended that those that won't drill a hole in their casings to place black electrical tape where the wires and contrast pot meet. I should have done this even with the contrast pot case install option.

Talked to JAH via email we can get him sorted out. Since its a wire attached POT if its pulled hard enough, like anything it can come apart. Its an easy fix for anyone that has used a soldering iron before, so I suggested someone do it locally rather than send it back to us for me to repair for free as the shipping alone would not be worth it.

Yes it can be soldered back on very easily, honestly it should still have enough room to not add longer wires, but depends on how he broke it. The wire is long enough but in the future to circumvent a rare issue like this we may make the wire a tad bit longer. The reason it isn't really long right now is that the wire can get in the way under the case and interfere with the buttons if it is too long.

Installed my screen last night without a hitch. right now the pot is dangling around back since I don't trust myself with metalwork. Installed os128 (had to change filename like Jah) and os128xl. Loving the extra real estate! Didn't realize though that it's actually not as wide as the original screen so when running os2xl the fonts etc are a little smaller. Also wish old OSes would show on the bottom half of the screen, and that the blank half was actually blank (solid color). But those are small niggles. Overall I'm very pleased! Good work mpcstuff!

Had a play around with 128xl before I went to bed. Most of what I use from os2xl is already there. Diggin the new pgm based chop. Feels kinda like I'm back on my ASR, only better. Hope JJ sorts out the looping and maybe adds start/end/loop point modulation to programs...

Yeah...I was good until trying to install that pot. The wires detached right at the point of contact with the pot. I or a local electronic repairman will provide the fix.

Edit - Found a local repair shop that can do it for me. I will pick up my screen tomorrow to complete the install..........

this is the most pressing issue and would be the greatest jjos change in my opinion. we also need to be able to copy pads/params using UNDO in GPE again.

Agreed. What's the process for 128xl bug reports and feature requests? I'd like to get involved in the development process. I don't yet own a license to 128xl, but I figure why wait...

There are some differences with the 128XL, for example, chopping is done in Program mode, not TRIM. But yes, most of the modes are basically the same core but adapted for the bigger screen, but there are differences/improvements in some functionality as far as I can tell. But TBH I've not had a chance to sit down and go through the 128XL properly yet, I'll do that early next week.

The big-screen system is now and
will be in the future for a small number of
users,

IMO we absolutely need the old style CHOP back in TRIM, or crossfade loop/destructive chop created out of the new PGM mode chop system. in the meanwhile, i cannot fully adopt 128xl because i'll have to make my sample chop pgms in os2xl. i believe this will be resolved in future updates
