Are there any sites, or people on here that give me some tips on eq'ing drums? im rockin an mpc 1000. Ive been playing with the eq but i just cant seem to get my kicks to sound "punchy" enough or my snares to get that crack. I have a pretty good understanding on hi's, lows and mids. anything would help yall!

Eq's are easy too understand but really difficult to master. Try sweeping around the frequency's to get your ears accustom to whats where. I would say usually the "punchy" sound I would say is always around 100hz to possibly around 300hz it all depends on the kick drum but its in the low miss. Another note is that instead boosting up frequencies you might want to cut some in order for you to get the full potential of the kick drum. If you want to hear something more, why boost and when you can cut.

cool thanks man!...i found that if i throw a simple eq on the drums (wether its a break of some individual chops) and turn the lows up a little and play with the hi's and mid's i get a gritter, punchier sound.

Layer a sub bass kick under your kick. Make the sub bass kick very short. Eq alone may not always be the answer.

Thy_Cow_punchers wrote:do the steepest q at 50 hz boost it and then cut it the full db ,get rid of that that pviotal then

around 200 z ,cut it by 2db on the Q bout 1.01

then around 300 hz do another cut with the sharpest Q and cut the max ,is it bout 15db

sweep around 3.52 to find the bite ,then boost by say 4 db on a Q of 1.00

around 6 hz boost again by 6 db on a Q of 5...

then cut between the two a full 15 db.

all this wil do is clean it up and give you targets to smash with

a multiband compressor ,but try and throw a normal compressor before itand give it fast as **** attack say 59.7 ms and a slow relesae say 7.90 ms ...

if you wanna tune it IN use a saturator and try and get a distortion (use a soft sine) BEFORE the multiband ...

go easy on the low freq with the multiband compress it and shut the **** up outta it

but the other 2 freq mianly the 2nd one is the punch ..go sicko

makin beats like on a yahama psr 340 when there is the toolbox and tools to sculpt your sound ,just knowing what sound you want .

soon as they i wanna sound like >>>> or youtube on how to make blah

we all have the tools in our daws to get that pro sound we all crave..

just getting it is the hard part .. it's the most difficult hobby on the palnet

music making .... i ask for knowledge and help ..no one helps

but in a sense i understand why as they too have worked hard and mean bloody hard

look at them gays who have big muscles and think they successful and fullfilled

pftttt

:? dude, what are you ranting about? the simplest way for him to get any type of punch or crack is with layering, to Lamp's point.

what i usually do:
Layer!
low cut snares.
set the filter envelopes (ADSR) /also the Amp envelopes.
low cut high hats even more..
Layer and LowPASS Kicks and again use the filter envelopes! give the low pass filter a slow attack so you leave the kick some punch.

This works for me. still trying to improve, so it's not all that yet.
I do more.. but this is about EQing.
