Anyone here use a sp202?

thinking of copping one as a side piece and occasional put drums and bass into it of sampling then transferring to the pc .

If you can get one for real cheap, it's a fun piece.
A little like a Fisher Price 'My First Sampler' but very functional.
Haven't used mine in a while but from what I remember....

Some plus sides:
Built in microphone works really well
Expandable with a smart media card
The timestretch knob is brilliant
Will work on batteries, really portable.
You'll get some nice dirty sampling out of it if you want.


Some downsides:
You will be very lucky to find the correct type of Smartmedia card (to expand the memory) for sale anywhere now.
No MIDI out port so when sequencing it you need a controller of some sort.

I haven't used mine in a while but I'll always keep it. It doesn't smell of maggots (in case you are worried ) more like crunchy peanut butter

ok now making a full beat on it only has 4 sounds at anyone time so prolly have to sample drum loops into it but how is the swing as far as programming individual drum hits.

I sold mine last year in pristine condition with a 4mb smart media card. It was a shame such a **** ended up buying it off me...

The guy turned turned up here thinking he could split multitrack recordings into separate samples with it.

No sequencer on the 202
You need to run it from a seperate sequencer although you can of course trigger samples from the pads on the front.

It was originallly designed to partner the Boss DR202 drum machine which has an extra track for triggering the sp. Hence it's lack of features.

A 4 track (tape)-recorder will get you far with it, and I'm sure the drums sound GRIMY/CRUNCHY in it.
