Thanks a lot guys, I had a lot of fun doing this mod. I have a bunch of vintage samplers in the studio and most of them have been modified now in some way. I was inspired by Tom Virostek who did an *incredible* mod on my Korg DSS-1, including a rewrite of the operating system (by Jim Babb, the original programmer) and and CF card upgrade. My first sampler mod was bridging 5v power to the SCSI port on my EPS-16+ so it could use a ZIP drive and I just took it from there. I think this is the most work I've ever done to the casing of any instrument though. I wish I had another MPC60II laying around, as I have some ideas to make this integration a *little* slicker. Anyway, I am totally digging the lack of need for any floppy disks. I wrote a small bash script that fills the SD card with folders filled with disk images. I figured 10 disks per folder would make it easier to navigate around using the HxC emulator's directory buttons and I currently have 100 folders on the card giving me access to 1000 virtual floppies pretty painlessly, though this doesn't even begin to touch the capacity of the card.

I tried to put as much detailed info up in that photo album for anyone who would like to try this, including links to the disk images, but please let me know if I can be of any more help. Thanks nogginj for starting this thread: I felt pretty safe cutting into the MPC knowing there was already some precedent for using the HxC with old 720k sampler drives.

Resurrecting this old-ish thread because I have been plagued with dying floppy drives on both my MPC60ii and one of my Emax. I am very close to buying a HxC for both but am kind of lost on one point...

Can anyone shed some light on how I would go about making disc images of my floppies?

I have a very extensive library of original Emax banks - that I scored directly from a old Emu employee. Some of them were for "internal use only" demos only and could never be gotten again.

If anyone shares the secret with me and I get the emulators I would be more than happy to share some disc images on here.

the easiest way is to use the software that comes with the hxc device. you need to use it in a computer with a built-in floppy drive - i don't think usb floppy would work.

it's then just as simple as putting in a disk - hitting 'make image', and copying the file to the sd card.

very simple, very useful.

Okay, great - that sounds easy enough. Now I just have to get someone to donate an ancient computer to me.
