cant fake awesome 4! bit samples with software

I was going thru my older tracks and i came across a folder full of samples i made from a line level modified gameboy i used to own

im now spewing that i gave it away cos i couldnt fit in my packing, and also at the time I didnt think i wanted it anymore as i purchased Plogue Chipsounds vst.

having not heard the samples (just samples of music from games) in ages, they now sound absolutely amazing lofi and im convinced the plogue emulator doesnt come close... good thing i have another gameboy to do the mod on.

given how cheaply they can be obtained and how easy this mod is to do.. in my opinion i cant highly enough recommend having a gameboy on hand with this mod for sampling..

Drop the folder.

easy as anything to do, takes no time at all.. the hardest part is finding the special 3 ended screwdriver needed to open it up. - if your willing to sacrifice the use of headphones on your gameboy you can just use the jack that's built in.. and its litterally a matter of jumping a few components on the pcb so your getting line level as opposed to headphone level.. much cleaner sound.

and then if you wanna get fancy you could get LSDJ or similar running.. but if youve got an MPC sampling from games is good enough i think.

i also used to do this as well, made
loads of chiptunes and sampled my
GB heaps as well. tones are great,
and level of noise is high, but i like
that.

(my GB didn't have the 'prosound'
mod though, so... i understand that
significantly reduces the signal to
noise ratio?)
