Akai's history has always been a short life cycle for further OS development to include the Roger Linn signature MPCs (*note that the OS development of ALL hardware workstations regardless of company is several years at most). New hardware model MPCs are released every 3 years. Older models are not discontinued until a new model is released (unlike Roland). I suspect the same for future MPCs.

Hardware MPCs software can only be developed to a certain point as it is stored on ROM/Flash Rom. Hardware MPCs ROM/Flash Rom holds a limited amount of data. At a certain point, developers will have to remove features or the result will be some sluggishness. Rohan and JJ operating systems are perfect examples of this. And the reality of hardware is that at some point...further developing them is a waste of resources as it doesn't generate income and Akai hasn't sold operating systems in the past. Now if new operating systems can be sold like what JJ is doing....then the development time can probably be extended.

Enter the Ren. The MPC Ren shatters the mold of legacy MPCs. The MPC Rens operating system is software for your PC/Mac and not bound by previous hardware limits. Thus it makes the development of the Ren infinite like software DAWs on the market. So envision MPC Ren OS 2.0, OS 3.0, OS 4.0, etc., etc..like Logic, Cubase, Pro Tools etc. The MPC Ren will have updates to include bug fixes and feature additions.

If your are skeptical...point taken. But if you want some hints at what is potentially in store for the Ren..look no further than Akai's parent companies acquistions over the past 6 months....buying software companies? (plus...there are multiple forum members that have knowledge that OS updates are planned).

MPCs are far from basic. There has yet to be an MPC free of bugs. JJ is highly regarded in this forum. He has yet to produce a completely bug free product....as it is nearly impossible especially if you are adding features or improvements.

I said NUMARK. Don't muddy the waters bringing in the ancient Akai and Roger Linn. Numark controllers have a short lifespan , buggy drivers , and usually lousy support. The Ren/Studio is a Numark controller. Users are constantly getting stuck with paperweight hardware, lousy drivers, and buggy software. It has happened before with several of the major units.

I supposed that's what they had in mind when snuffed the 2500 in it's infancy.

It doesn't have an OS it's just a controller dongle to a pc/mac app.

IOW now instead of a functioning production center it's just a group of USB controllers. Worthless and useless on their own like all USB controllers.

After re-reading your posts...it is evident you have no idea of what you are talking about. You are wrong on every point.

Muddying the waters? I am talking about Numark/Akai MPCs. They have the same lifespan as legacy MPCs. In fact, the MPC 1000 has been sold in stores longer than any MPC in Akai's history...it approaching a decade on the market.

The MPC 2500 was sold for more than 3 years....which is about the same lifespan of every MPC before it. After more than 1 1/2 years after the MPC 5000 was released, a specifical edition MPC 2500 was released then it was discontinued.

MPCs are the premier sampling drum machines in the world of the past 25 years. It is kind of weird having to defend them in a forum dedicated to them. It also weird that you are calling the best drum machines ever created paperweights...used on numerous hits...used in all the beat battles in this forum...

You have zero knowledge or experience on the Ren. What it has and doesn't have is beyond your comprehension...sorry dude. This is the simple truth and not a dis.

When you have the best MPCs ever made sitting side by side..its quite easy to confuse them...and they are nearly the same size. :P

You said alot of stuff that doesn't make sense.

Numark/Akai controllers has been around for about a decade as well. They have been continuously updating them/releasing new models (obviously you think that is a bad thing). They are the only drum pad controllers that some companies stock. If Akai updates the Ren hardware like they did with the MPD series...I am all for it. I already have feature requests for the hardware....which I will include in a future thread.

What happened the last time Numark released a major controller linked to it's own software? Where's that controller now? Where are the software updates?

I have no idea. I don't own or use Numark/Akai products outside of the MPC series and the one MPD I purchased.

But I am curious to know what that product is and the faults you personally found with the software.

I created this thread for continued MPC Ren dialog. I appreciate you being forthcoming with your feelings about Numark/Akai and their products in spite of the fact that you never owned the products you discuss. You use to talk about the MV in this forum many years ago. But I haven't heard a peep about the MV from you since it was discontinued. Based-upon your experiences with the MV...what features does it have that would be nice to include in the MPC Ren?
