wondering how to do this

well i 'am in need of some help, i usually mess with outboard equipment, but i got this new keyboard controller(EDIROL-PCR-50) and i'm wondering how to hook it up to my pc thru CEP2 software.

i got it hooked up through my soundcard, midi in and out and hooked up to the usb port,

but when i open CEP what do i do to get it working ,
do i need VST's to get sounds to come out, i'm not to familar with using computer software as an instrument. i also have FL and cubasis which one of these would work best with this keyboard so i can make some riffs with the keyboard and put my drums over them with my mpc. any help would be very much appreciated.

I'm not 100% on how you are hooking this up. Usually the midi controllers either go in through the midi ports or you can have them send data through usb. So usually you'd either be doing one or the other.
Either way you shouldn't have a usb hub in between your soundcard or your midi controller. (In case that's the case.)

Cubase is probably better than FL when it comes to using a controller but either one should be kind of plug and play. Unless you want to send info through the knobs. Then you have to mess around with cubase.

Describe your setup again and maybe some more ideas will come to mind.

I could be wrong, but i think CEP used to be just an audioeditor. So no midi.
Hooking it up to Cubase should be easy.
that keybaord is pretty new right? so it should have USB. You just need to hook it up with usb, and install the latest drivers.

And what version of Cubase are you using?

ok here it is my setup on my pc, i'm using CEP2, and i also have FL4 and CUBASIS VST 4, ethier program i use , i use with my sound blaster audigy2zs soundcard ,it has the midi ports on the front, (theres no midi hub involved)
and the usb gives power to the keyboard so i have to have both usb and midi cables hooked up.


i guess what i'm trying to do is create some melodies with the board on these programs (the board has no sounds so i asume i have to use a VST right ? (whats a VST? an instrument sound in the software right) and then lay mpc drums over the melodies, or sample the molodies in to the mpc.
ethier way what i'm interested in doing is using the board with the pc.

this may sound repetative but what else do you need to know about my setup.

try using the controller with cubase. You should be able to just set up an instrument there (a vst) so that you can program in some sounds. Make sure you are hearing something. Once that is working try hitting the keys on your controller. Should work. I'm not familiar with Cubase so you might have to make some adjustments there. Oh, and once you have sound coming out and want to record the notes....... hit the RECORD button!!!!!

in fruity loops you have to go to the midi screen and set midi input to the name of your soundcard, then select the controler type, if it's not listed select general

make sure you have all the drivers installed for your soundcard

you get to the midi screen in fruity by going to options then midi settings

I'm pretty sure you don't need to hook it up to the midi-input. The usb cable will transfer midi too. A friend of mine has the pcr-30, and that has a midi interface build into it. I assume it's the same with your keyboard.

ive tried it. it works but i dont get to many sounds ,i'm using cubase 5 know, i just cant figure out how to record on this maphukr i've been rackin my brain i want to add sounds to my tracks on the multi recorder but cant figure it out ,

any ideas pleeeease

give it some time, once you've mastered Cubase you'll never want to go back to hardware recording again. If you're getting a signal you should be able to record. remember, you'll have to arm a track for recording before it records anything.

Cubase 5 loads vst-instruments. So basically you can load any type of synth in vst format into cubase and control it with your keyboard, and mpc.
A good way to get familiar with vst's is to look at some freeware options. You can get a whole lot more than 5 sounds without spending a dime.

Try this:

Launch Cubase> Open the VST instruments Panel(F11)> click on an empty slot(no vst instruments) and select the VST you want to use> click on Edit to see the VST interface(it might already be open)> create a new midi track> select the the VST you opened as the output> rec enable the track

how do i enable record, thats where i'm stuck theres no record lite showing you can record, i see the record on the play/record function thing , but there's no monitor reading , only on a midi track,
how do i get a reading for a audio track, you can record an outside source right, because apop up box comes out and ask me to select from my files do i need to create some thing in wave lab first,

i'm using Cubase sx, but i don't think it's that different.

To record audio:
1. Add an audiotrack to your project. (if you havent done that already)
2. Set the input on each audiotrack to your soundcards inputchannel(s).
3. Enable monitor on one of the tracks.
4. Check if you have an incoming audiosignal, and if it ain't clipping. If it doesn't show an input meter on the track itself you'll probably have to open the "mixer" window.
5. Enable record on the audiotrack, there should be a small recordbutton somewhere
6. Press record (and play?) on the transport, and start playing the source you're wanting to record.
7. To play back what you've recorded, you'll probably have to disable monitor on the track.

if you have a soundcard with more than one input, you can record enable as many tracks as you inputs, and record all at the same time.
If you sync your mpc with cubase (search my previous posts on this) you can record your mpc's separate tracks to separate tracks in cubase without needing a soundcard with multiple inputs.

Recording a vst instrument as Midi:
1. Add a miditrack to your project.
2. Set the input to your keyboard or soundcards midi-input, and set "channel" to any for now.
3. Enable monitor.
4. open the vst panel and insert a vst instrument.
5. Set the track's output to this instrument.
6. Push some keys on your keyboard, the instrument should now make sound.
7. Enable record.
8. Push record on the transport, and play your keyboard.

I hope this helps a bit.
