Yo. Long time reader here, first time poster. I've searched out this but couldn't find the same question being asked before and would really appreciate some help on this from y'all

So I want to hook up my 60 to my EPS 16+ and I'm able to hook it up so that the 60 sequences the eps by midi, I can also hook it up the other way round. What I'm wondering is, is it possible for me to use the mpc's seq to trigger drums on the eps, and also use the internal seq of the eps for synth sounds/samples at the same time?
So for example, on instruments 1 and 2 of the eps I've got drum kits, that are being sequenced by the 60 via midi (sending note information) on various tracks of the mpc and at the same time, have instruments 3-8 of the eps containing synth sounds/samples but being sequenced by the internal sequencer of the eps (which would be triggered via midi clock from the mpc). Anybody know if this is possible??

Effectively, the question is, whether it's possible to send note on/off info as well as clock through one midi cable and whether the eps can have ounds triggered as well as midi clock at the same time?

Thanks guys, any help is much appreciated..

should be totally possible ... have you tried it?

i know you can send clock + note data over the same cable, so now just run the eps sequence and see if you can send note data.

you should really try this yourself and report back here.

good luck.

ps. not sure why you want to do this - id convert all seqs to mpc (send midi out of eps and record on mpc) and then control it all from there

Thanks man. The reason I wanna do it is that I record tracks in one take (though usually more like 20!) performances and it'd be nice to be able to have hands on control of as many individual elements as possible.
In the main studio where I work we use a 2kxl where I rock the track mutes via pads and I've really gotten used to that method. My own home setup is just basically the 60, eps, some outboard and an analogue desk. My idea was to be able to rock drum mutes from the mpc via the track mutes on the desk and then be able to jam on the mutes at the eps sequencer all in an attempt to recreate the way I'd do it on the 2kxl controlling synths etc in the other studio...

Your idea re sending the midi from the eps to the mpc and controlling all from there is certainly interesting. Sounds like a good way to work though it'd require me to change my antiquated ways lol

Will certainly report back once I get everything cooperating. Was just hoping I could get some directions on this here rather than diving into that damn eps manual (again!)

Peace

I've tested this kind of thing on an sp12 (sync'd seq patterns + drum hit triggering) ... problem was the midi timing got really bad.
Have not tested it with my eps16+ .... but I've found just triggering drum hits via midi from an mpc4k ... is a little shaky timing wise ... so to have seq patterns also running..... would be even worse... wouldn't do it myself.

hope this helps. i pulled it from another thread i posted in...

MPC 60 with the EPS 16+ works the same way.

Grub

I use an MPC 60 as the master and an ASR-10 as the slave. This is how I do it and it's way easier than you explained.

1. Hook up the midi cables
midi out of MPC to midi in of ASR
midi in of MPC to midi out of ASR

2. On ASR hit Edit then System-Midi
scroll to Midi in mode and change it from Omni to Multi

3. Load up instruments or sample some onto ASR

4. On MPC turn the Soft Midi Thru to Off
this prevents the phasing sound when you laying down your sequences

5. Midi tracks 1-8 on your MPC are instruments tracks 1-8 on your ASR. just check which midi inputs you have your ASR plugged into (A,B,C,D or 1,2 etc...)

Now you can sequence with your MPC and use sounds off of your ASR. it's that easy.

I also use my other MIDI in/outs on my MPC to slave to Pro Tools, so when i'm done the beat, i can track it out seperated to Pro Tools.

Hope that helps.

It a little easier than Grub explained. There is only 1 setting to set on the ASR and 1 setting to set on the MPC.

Thanks for that but what I'm wondering is whether it's possible to use both the mpc's seq (Triggering samples on the asr) and the asr's internal seq at the same time. With the mpc sending midi note info as well as clock data, allowing you control over more elements in a live/jam kind of context. Still haven't figured it out..

Why are you wondering, I just spoonfed you the info that even if it works midi timing will be a big problem.
Also, is it too much work for you to test it out yourself, or do you need someone to call over to show you how to use your samplers, and maybe hold your hand and finish your beats for you too..

Yo, what's with the attitude? I was replying to the other poster, not you.

Oh great spoonfeeder, come hold my hand and finish my beats, please. That's exactly what I want....

People ask about things on the internet. Were you aware of that or do you need me to come round to yours and spoonfeed you info on the routine practices of the internet?
