Fitting a Zip Drive into MPC2000xl

yo, im trying to fit a 250mb zip drive into my mpc2000xl. I havent actually lifted the bonnet yet, but my pc knowledge tells me that theres gonna be a bit of an issue with the power connector!

So how have you guys rigged up your internal zip drives? Is there a widely available power convertor?? Or did you just rip off the connector and solder on a new one?

i think i read somwhere that only 100mg zip drives work on the xl and that 250mg don't, not sure

i reccomend some research on that.

of course do 250's work, even the new 750's work on a 2kxl

but can anyone actually help with the installation info? i've seen the page on midicase.com...anyone got a clearer more recent update to this? what exactly gets snipped etc, any soldering? anyone screwed this up? what happened?

If you work on your PC you can do this, do a search there are SEVERAL past posts about this.

yes but none actually really get to the heart of the matter. also the search function on here doesnt work properly, it wont delimit to just the 2000xl forum...try it...you get minimum 2000 returns for "internal zip drive"...meh...

I installed a 250 zip inside my xl, no problem.

I had some spare wires so I spliced together 2 of the example wires in this link for a "homemade" adapter.

No. The Xl motherboard will need a 4 pin floppy connector.

This cable would work if the zip side was female or if you can get a male to female adapter for it.
