I am having a RAM issue with my MPC.

When I tried to turn on my MPC this afternoon, it would start to turn on and get stuck on the "MPC500 startup" screen, not advancing to the screen that shows the amount of installed RAM. The "MPC500 startup" would flicker every once in a while, like it was trying to do something, but it would not move along with the startup process.

After trying a few basic things like unplugging, plugging back in and restarting; I removed the RAM that I had installed (256mb, yes I read the RAM/CF thread) and the MPC now starts normally with the stock 16mb of RAM.

I tried re-installed the operating system (1.31) with no luck.

The CF card and all the pins are good.

I cant think of any reasons why my RAM would just stop working.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I am hoping that the RAM just went bad, but since I have never heard of that happening with computer RAM, I can't imagine that it could happen in my MPC.

Thanks in advance.

That's good that it's the RAM since it can be found cheap. I'd try cleaning the contacts and make sure it's inserted properly, but really you're probably better off just buying a new stick.

Yeah get a q-tip dipped in Isopropyl and gently wipe the contacts on the ram stick. Reinstalled the ram and see if cleaning it has worked. If it hasn't done the trick then your need a new ram stick.

Hi, i am having the exact same problem, could you recommend where to get a cheap new RAM? is it a specific RAM for AKAI or like can i get it in a computer store as a 128 RAM?

thanks for your response :)

As for the OP, the issue was probably that the original stick was not 100% stable leading to a crash in the MPC's operating system. This can happen as it can work for some certain amount of time and then eventually lead to crashes after long use.
