MPC1000 recording/sequencing issue

I recently bought a used mpc1000 (blue/red) and have been experiencing a problem with recording a sequence. Whenever I start recording a beat and the metronome goes on, it sounds perfect while I'm playing the beat but when I listen to the recorded version of the beat it's not at all the same. It has the same sounds but the timing and multitude of the beats are distorted and not how I played it. I'm not sure if its the pads or sensors or something wrong internally. I've heard that the blue/red 1k has had issues with the pad sensors and they offered a fix to it but it would really suck if I had to cough up another $200 when I don't even know if that's the issue. I'm running on jj os 3.12. Thanks.

Nothing has to do with the pads.

It probably has to do with your timing and the quantise function. Better known as timing correction. The mpc will correct your peformances to a set resolution which can be set in the 'timing correction' menu. (F1 in the main screen).
But if you don't have such a tight timing yet the timing correction will shift your notes later or earlier then you intended.

Read up about the timing correction function and practice playing the mpc. It's like an instrument. You have to learn how to play it.
