And I'm right here with you on that.

Before it's closed... I just want to say. I have owned a 2000xl, 4000, 500 (pos) and currently own a 1000 and 5000. So I can and will speak on Akai and their past practices.

I am EXTREMELY disappointed the 5k will not receive the upgrade I was told we were going to get this year. To just drop support after just a year of upgrades and bug fixes is the last straw for me. The 5k was so close to being the perfect MPC. Akai sys software, the 4k sample engine and a few bug fixes. I would have been more than happy.

But, back to the point. I simply can not trust Akai to continue support for anything. It's one thing to drop support on something that is a stand alone product. It's entirely different to drop support for something that depends on a computer to operate. They will have to continually make updates for it to be the centerpiece of a studio. Can you really be sure they will support Windows 8 or 9, or the next Mac OS? Past practice with Akai has told me that they probably won't.

So, while I was at first, I was excited about the Ren and a 5k update. I will not spend my money on anything Nukai for at least 2 yrs. I can't speak for anyone else, but they have a lot to prove to me. I will sell the 1k and keep the 5k.

I also own Maschine and have been using that since late last year. While I do like the work flow of the MPC's better. I trust NI a whole lot more to keep upgrading Maschine. I truly hope they take a lot of the MPC's ideas and put them in to a bigger and upgraded Maschine 2. That could very well convince me to sell both of my MPC's and not look back.

Akai has never really been a 'software' company. But they have produced great samplers over the years to include the MPC 5000 in my opinion. While I no longer own an MPC 5000, I am sad to see it discontinued as I was the 2500. I invested a lot of time, passion, and energy towards these MPCs to include time spent in these forums helping other users get the most out of them. Not getting another OS update for the 5K is and still is disappointing for those that actually own it.

Now it is logical for those that feel burned by Akai to not trust in their new products. They are charting a new territory. But if you take a closer look at what has been going on...you can see a bright future. inMusic, Akai's parent company, has been bolstering their brand to include companies that specialize in software (http://inmusicbrands.com/). I am sure it will take more than a few press releases to earn your trust. The wait-n-see approach may be your best option. Me...I am all in. I am excited about the new products as it is exactly what I want in a modern MPC. These new MPCs are very reasonable in price...much cheaper than the MPCs that came before it. While the Ren will be the center of my studio...I will still maintain my trusty hardware MPCs...whose files are compatible with the Ren.

Seriously, we get the picture, you love Akai and you love the MPC, I think that's pretty much etched in our brains now so no need to repeat ad-infinitum. I've mentioned this before on other thread, but I really cannot see InMusic's mergers and acquisitions (M & A) game will benefit end users.

I'm a bit surprised to hear that Mr. Jah, the greatest defender of MPC-5000 ever, no longer own MPC-5000. I had an impression from him that he'd take his MPC-5000 to his grave, almost.

MPC-5000 was released in 2008, which is only 4 years ago. It's sad that the hardware had a good potential to become a good machine, but it was never given a chance to be polished.
Although I don't own 5000, I hope that a great thing like JJOS would happen to MPC-5000 in future.

This would be a good time to tap MPCstuff on the availability of parts or maybe grab some vital spares.

You shouldn't speak on things you know nothing about. This guys whole story is fabricated..... He was having electrical problems in his house. Not one other MPC 5000 screen has been found to catch on fire.

My MPC 5000 has worked fine for me. I havent received 1 error/crash in the years I've owned mine. I honestly don't really care anymore if they update the OS. I'm getting the job done with what I have. You can throw someone in a room full of gear and still couldnt make a decent beat.
It ain't the gear that makes you good. Most forget that while chasing down the newest, latest & greatest, feature filled, 1 TB of sounds, built in hand warmers & blow job give-erz...... It don't matter what you have, it's what you do with it.
