I just got a MPC 2000xl with the new Compact Flash Drive installed. I am wondering what else do I need to get going? I don't have tons of money so would I be able to just set them up to my small speakers and amp and be good to go?

headphones or monitors(which are speakers made for mixing and recording) or just any kind of speakers that u might have laying around. the best mix usually come from speakers of headphones that are flat, meaning that mostly all the frequencies are played at the same volume.

music to sample, records or just put music on ur cf from your computer.

if u go with records ur gonna need a turntable(obviously) AND a preamp, mixers work well for that.

any more questions?

Hey thanks for the answers. So I found an older pair of headphones that fit the out. My next question is do MPC 2000xl's take MP3? Because I am trying to load a drum loop and it keeps saying unknown file type.

IMO... 1st, get the MPC2000XL manual from the Akai website and study it.
2nd, add 32mb ram sticks to max out your sample time to almost 3 minutes in stereo/6 minutes in mono.
3rd, have fun with your new MPC!

Thanks for all the help. And trust me I have been studying the manual like crazy. Whenever I have time I am just glued to my MPC.

I do have one question though. Whenever I load a sample and play it it is incredibly sped up. Is this normal?

2kxl manual, pg193....
Sound Generator

If your loaded samples aren't this then you have a problem.

Mpc2kxl is expecting 44.1khz wav, sounds like you might be loading files at 22.05khz or lower. you can of course just detune the sample to play at normal speed. You can take advantage of this if you need more sample time. Use 22khz samples and you will have doubled you total available sample time.
