Mpc 60 OS 2.02 with Slim Phatty

Hey guys, my MPC 60 has OS 2.02 and I intend to use the pads as a midi controller for my new Moog Slim Phatty. My experience with Midi is pretty much none. I have only seen support for OS 3.10 regarding this topic, so a detailed walk-through for people using 2.02 would be appreciated. Thanks.

actually check the original (or the mpc60ii manual) that manual is written in an easy to read format.... it aint your typical manual. It gives you the general run down on how to hook things up.

you should be able to just hook up the midi cables, switch your track to a midi track and choose the correct midi port. you can do all this from the main screen actually.

then hit record and start playing your moog to the metronome.

mpcs are very midi friendly for this sort of thing

I do have the original manual, and I followed the instructions there, but thanks for reassuring me. I also hooked up the "midi out" of the MPC to the "midi in" of the Moog. The only thing I couldn't figure out was how to make the tracks a "midi track" in the os2.02 - is there something I'm missing?

Yes. On the main page where it says "type" change it from drums MIDI.

In 2.02, there is nowhere on the main page where it says "type". What I found is that you need to press the MIDI key, go to option 2 "External drum triggering, drums chan" and then change "Midi drum data sent out" to "Drum Notes". Then, on the main page, set the track to Ch:16A-Drums. A,B,C, and D in this case corresponds to Midi Out ports 1,2,3 and 4. Hopefully this is helpful for anyone in my position.

Alas, my problem persists. I am beginning to think it isn't the MPC though, as I have received visual cues on the Slim Phatty that shows it is receiving the Midi notes, and I have successfully tested the sound output through the settings. Quite frustrating. If this turns out to be purely a problem with the settings and not the Slim Phatty, I will be sure to post the solution for future readers.

I dont remember the outcome for using the pads on the 60 to trigger the sounds.. but I believe if you recorded pad presses... then that would play back and trigger the sounds?

either way, you could easily connect midi from the mpc out to the moog in.. the moog out to the mpc in... then you use the moog's keys or a 3rd controller to do it.. that will work as I have done it with a different synth.. never thought to use the mpc itself to do the triggering though.

But agreed, best way to do this is to stick a MIDI controller keyboard into the MPC MIDI IN and use that to play inparts from the Moog.
