Thats what I often do with my own projects that use LCDs. It would definitely work, but I'm guessing someone whose not got the confidence to drill a case generally wont have the confidence to solder either. Just trying to see if its a workaround for people who dont like to work with, but I guess a pot rattling round inside is nearly as bad as a lose one on the outside

I'll try to sort out a video soon.

Look forward to it

I have some feedback for MPC Stuff for future improvements to the screen, if possible:
1. Use plastic that is not as easily scratched for the LCD housing. The housing of the original Akai LCD doesn't scratch as easily (I tried it for test purposes). I also recommend covering the entire LCD housing with a protective, removable film of plastic for those idiots like myself that will scratch it during install.

2. Design the LCD in such a way that the entire display is being utlized for the OS. There is approx 1/3" inch border of the LCD that isn't utilized.

3. Add F1 key labels to the LCD. The stock LCDs of legacy are labeled to matched corresponding F keys

4. The contrast pot can be easily pulled off if you are not careful. The XLCD manual suggests you place electrical tape around the contrast pot if you are not going to drill a hole to install it as suggested. This tape should be added at the factory.

5. Redesign the LCD so the contrast knobs is part of the LCD housing like the MPC 4000. This would elminiate any potential issues for #4 above.

Props to MPC Stuff for designing this new LCD and JJ for creating the OS for it. Awesome work!

Alright...got some answers for the concerns.

1. (Issue: possibility of scratching housing) We now have skins available that cover the front plate so you can use them to protect the original finish from getting scratched. Black ones will NOW be included in the kit FREE. JAH or anyone else that wants one that already purchased the LCD if you want one let me know Ill send it free of charge.

2. (Issue: Outer line of screen not used) Again, that is not a possibility EVERY LCD screen has the edging its just not as easy seen because of the LCD window.

3. (Issue: F1-F6 lettering not there) I will make some skins available with this added. Personally I think it would look tacky and I never need the lettering right there and that is why they were not added. So I will have some skins made with the F1-F6 on them too for people that want that.

***MOST IMPORTANT***

4 and 5. (Issue: Contrast POT issues) The contrast POTs are being done away with. Future orders from here on out will not have contrast POTs, and the contrast can be internally controlled with the unit just as they always were. We should have figured this out from the start but when working with JJ we both could not figure out a good medium on how to do it properly. We have since figured it out. The 2500 and the 1000 will NOT require contrast POTs.

****FOR THOSE THAT ALREADY PURCHASED and RECEIVED YOUR LCD SCREENS**** If you already drilled your casings I am sorry you had more work. Both methods work just fine, its just easier to install without the POT. But if you have not drilled or you want to exchange for the newer type we can do this for you free of charge, just contact us via EMAIL to setup exchange.

The non contrast POT screens will ship in about 7 days. I hope this helps for the people that were a bit nervous in buying because of the POT.

^ this is an excellent solution. many pieces of equipment have non-digitally controlled contrast capabilities, but it's generally good that the fewer external components the better...that's one less pot to be worried about bumping, etc during transport.

Excellent support from both JJ and MPCStuff!

MPCStuff, I'm about to email you to request an exchange for a pot-less LCD and the skin cover.

3-4 weeks (hopefully) I will keep you guys updated.

As I told you guys before..the OS gets better by the day. JJ will listen and apply changes. It is not limited like everyone had speculated.
