sorry for posting this here but i cant get answers anywhere else.

i have an s950 that was working a few months ago. Recently moved and i just hooked it up but im getting no sound at all. either from the playback button or any of the outs.

when i sample in everything looks fine. the meter peaks the way it should so i'm pretty sure there's sound in there. unless im missing something. i've read the manual over and over and can't find what the issue is. i go directly out of mix output into my scarlet 2i2 and nothing. i go from that same out into my roland mixer. nothing. i even did all of that while going out from the front outputs. this is driving me crazy because this unit was working fine! is it possible that im not sampling in correctly?? i cant see that as a possibility because it captures the sample from what i can see in the sample window when the audio hits the sample-in threshold. can anyone help me out? thanks

You know this doesn't belong in the 60/ 3000 forum, right?

Moved, to "Other Samplers & Beat Boxes".

-can you play any prerecorded samples out of the mix out ?
If you can't, you might be in luck just find a jack to replace and resolder in place of it,
If you CAN, you might have to look at all the traces for where the signal from the preamp gets to the mix out

or maybe its the monitor knob? if you turn it and hear scratches coming out of the mix output, it needs to be replaced

thanks for the responses guys. i checked the signal chain like 10 times replacing the sampler even in the same chain and it all works fine. i think it is busted man. but the funny thing is that the front playback out isnt working either. are they wired together somehow? can i Y-split the left and right into into one plug that goes into my daw? even if that works i wont be able to monitor samples going on but it'll be workable.. this blows lol

to answer your questions harmonic: i dont hear scratches when i turn the knob, and all my pre recorded stuff plays fine out of individual outs. its just the front out and the back mix out

Theere is no front out on the 950. I guess you're taking bout the trigger input. This input can be used to connect a footswitch so you can trigger rec (when in sampling mode) or play (just like the PB Button)

FYI. The volume knob isn't in the signal chain of the individual outs 1-8 so they even play when the volume knob is turned all the way down.
You can route the sample to the induvidual out LEFT or RIGHT (09 / 10). If you still can't hear the sound thru them although the volume knob is all the way up and you've connected the cable to the LEFT OUT(or RIGHT OUT) the issue might bethe volume knob or the connection of it.
If you can hear a sound then you can be sure it isn't the knob.

peace

^^^thx for clearing that up... because its labeled playback/trigger or something like that, and theres a p.b. button i thought that was what it was. i tried routing the sounds to 9 and 10 and i get no sound at all even with the knob up. Looks like i may have to bring this into the shop. I had it up and running no problem the first time i got it so it shouldn't be this hard the second time around. Thanks for the help tho, much appreciated

just checked the monitor pot and it looks like there's no continuity there. the multimeter is showing an open loop. the record gain and stereo volume are showing .001 or .000 resistance but the monitor pot is showing OL when the terminals are touched to the very same tabs. I'm a novice when it comes to electronics. But i can definitely solder. The pot is rated 10k. can i just cop one from radioshack and solder it in? Could use some help from the more experienced electronics guys. let me know if i did something wrong or if i'm on the right track. thanks

Maybe, but the best way to get a for sure reading on a pot is to disconnect it from the board and then measure it. If you can't even get sample playback out of the mix out, replacing the monitor knob alone won't fix the problem.

hey Harmonic. Looks like the knob was good. i removed the entire assembly and tested it. I used an oscilloscope to trace the signal and it's traveling the way i THINK it should judging from the schematics. i started from the d-a converter (IC107) , to 109, 110, which then goes to IC25-27 which goes to P204. P204 is where the 4-pin cable is that jumps to the outputs. The pins coming out of the board where p204 fits, have no signal at all. So the signal stops between the op amps (IC25-27) and p204. So yea... now what? ideas?
