I have a question that is hard to explain but i will try my best :-D. A friend of mine has the 2000 xl and when he has a perfect loop the MPC will tell him the exact BPM of the sample, and then if he changes the tune of it the BPM will change according to the tune. Is this possible on the 2500?? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I have no idea, but i have a 2000XL, and i'd like to know how his method works...

I think he's doing something else that he's not telling you. Active pitchshift or pitchshift at all is not a function in the 2kxl. Maybe small chops and specific tuning?!?

There is definitely something he is not telling imo.

He said its hard to explain and he will show me again next time i'm in front of the MP but you go in loop mode (make sure the loop is perfect) then go into parameters and it should tell you the BPM there. Im not very familiar with the 2kxl but i have seen it done. Im using a 2500 with jjos and i would love to use that feature.

Well I've got what you say and the quick answer is no. The 2KXL has indeed such a feature, not the 2.5K.

The long answer is that you do it differently there AKA you do it by hand/ear.

No automatic bpm detection based on loop lenght/pitch. Once you figured out the loop's original tempo, there are also plenty of websites providing calculation formulas, should you prefer the math...

I'd like to say that that function on 2000XL is not that useful. I've never bothered with it.

just sample your loop, trim it so its like 2 bars or what ever, tune it to your liking, then set your sequence to the same amount of bars as a loop...

then record the loop, it will either overlap/cut itself off or there will be a gap.. then u adjust the bpm until the sample plays without overlapping or having a gap..

Funny I have run into lots of people who purchased other MPs, the MV and even Maschine then got rid of it because their methods made great use of the Beat Loop function on the XL.

I know how to use it but never had a reason to. Needless to say, I've never seriously used it. I just didn't see the need.

Most of those who are heavy users do a lot of pitching of samples or chops with them being the foothold of the creative method.

Think of it kinda like using the TTX, you move the slider all things change;
Pitch
Length
BPM

The TTX display will change as well to show you the new tempo.

This is kinda like how the Beat Loop function works and is a quick way to tune things to tempo or get a tempo from a pitch.

Don't don't think loops think about matching the tempo of chops.
If you take chops from different sources and use them together the Beat Loop function allows you to quickly match them similar to how you would match the tempo on turntables.

Like I said I know lots of guys who work that way and it's what kept them on the XL.

It's funny no matter what forum this has ever been talked about on people just don't get what people are talking about.

How will tap tempo allow you to change and work with chops of varying tempo and pitch the same way that the Beat Loop does?

Simple answer it can't.

Again it's not about loops or working inside a sequence.

i know exactly what you're talking about and i'm suggesting the obvious... use tap tempo to figure out the BPM and then pitch/tune your samples accordingly... you know, by actually using your ears and making music rather than just having a machine automatically do it for you... MPCs were never really designed with playing loops as a priority... but you already know this... and yes what you're talking about IS about loops if you're asking for the MPC to automatically detect BPM from a loop
