How comparable is the latency of ren vs hardware mpc's?

Just curious if akai has done any testing for this yet, this will be one of the 1st things I'd test.

Ive heard its on point.Depends what conditions its under.The more stuuf your running then the more latency of course.Personally i dont trust computers to be consistant.

You'd have to assume everyone has the same computer, to do a proper comparison.
And of course this would depend on the user software load, although i doubt that someone would drastically push the limits of the akai software to overload limits, still the limits are defined by the hardware(in which case for the ren is the computer cpu)..And of course the drivers... I know that alot of people suggest that the computer is the main issue with latency(cpu) but i would say that equally responsible is the driver of the sound/midi interface aswell.. I can push smaller buffer sizes with stability with my rme uc soundcard than any other sound card i've tried with the same computer, daw , and track/plug in usage... that is because of rme's drivers.

So the big things that will determine the rens success is the drivers and number of bugs. and most importantly AFTER SALES SUPPORT.

computer specs, drivers and interface type plays big role in this...I'd say common issue with USB based gear is this...

At first thought...I truly believed Akai should have went Firewire as I believe it would give better performance. But several companies (to include Akai) have programmed low latency drivers for USB drivers that are just as good. RME, Apogee, Motu, etc all released new USB audio interfaces. Akai's goal for the Ren was to achieve under 5 ms of latency.

On the other side of the coin...you can use any audio interface that you want. So if your RME has rock solid drivers and low latency, I would certainly use that. I am using UAD Apollo which performs great under 3 ms of latency. When UAD releases the Thunderbolt expansion...I will pick it up immediately as it will reportedly have lower latency that Firewire/USB.

Actually the last drivers released by Akai for an interface was (and still is) prone to distortion and poor sound quality. This substantiated by problems posted on Akai's own company run and employee staffed forum.

so is the studio the one to get for those who want to use a real quality interface?

You don't have to use the interface in REN, but then that would be a big price to pay for extra buttons and a tilt screen..

Thats a wise choice, RME seem to be ahead of the game there.

Since when does Akai have a forum? They just said several months ago they don't have the resources to create a forum.

Wow! When the hell did they set that shit up?

Anyway, on another note, not including the Ren, why the hell would anyone buy an Akai interface anyway? That's like buying an Akai TV from Radioshack that's sitting next to the Samsung. I mean, I love MPC's, but for other things, I have to go with the more reputable choices!

Another SB, I remember Akai used to have car audio subs!
