Casio CZ 101

I'm having a bit of trouble connecting my casio cz 101 to my mpc 1000 and I wondered if anyone here could help.

I noticed an old thread here http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=28771 that's the same problem as mine, what I want to do is connect my cz-101 to the mpc and record sounds from the synth to a track on the mpc, but at the moment I can only play sounds from an existing program with the keys on the casio, I can't hear anything when I try to play sounds from the casio into the mpc.

I have a cable running from MIDI OUT on the casio to MIDI IN 1 on the mpc, and from MIDI IN on the casio to MIDI OUT A on the mpc.

On the main page I've set the track to Type:MIDI Pgm:OFF and tried scrolling through MIDI:1A-16A and 1B-16B, currently set to MIDI:OFF

In the MIDI/SYNC page I have

Active track recieve channel:ALL
Soft thru:AS TRACK
Sequence change by program change:OFF
Pad to internal sound:ON

In the sync tab

Sync in:OFF
Sync out:OFF

(tried scrolling through these as well)

I'm really stuck here, any help would be appreciated.

Have you got a cable from the Line Out of the CZ-101 to the Audio Input of the MPC?

This. MIDI doesn't carry audio.

What does it say in the 2nd post?

or performance data being the keys that were pressed, i.e. you can edit what keys are pressed when?

if you want audio, you must use audio cables into the record in, or perhaps SPDIF in if your setup supports it.

if you want performance data, you must use a MIDI cable.

Yeah, the line out cable is connected to the right RECORD IN socket. Forgot to mention that in my last post. I've probably made a dumb mistake somewhere, but this is driving me crazy.

I dont know the details of the MPC1000 or Casio CZ-101 to be too specific, but this video might help. The problem could be your Casio so you need to make sure it is actually outputing audio signals.

You will also have to be in the record screen or have input thru enabled or you won't hear anything sent to the MPC record ins.

Sounds like you might want to look into snagging a small mixer pretty soon, to give yourself more flexible sampling/ monitoring options. Glad you're on your way tho...
