@shyft...nice one you have the SU700. good to see those units now and then.

@ Steele...I have the same shelf from ikea turned on their side. I used to put records in there but now I use it for the turntables and other storage.
Cheers,
Ian

Make sure to tighten the braces carefully. I have 4 QL-400's and with a 4000 on them they're wobbly as ****. They moved their manufacturing to China and since then the quality has gone to shit. You're better off putting your heavy MPC(s) on a solid surface. A 2500 should be okay though.

yeah I figured as much.. i was thinking of using it for maybe the 2000 because it has a good wedge shape.. but no tilt screen... though my LCD is crisp enough to make it easy to see at an angle.

thanks for the heads up.. I wonder if the 60ii fits in those.. haha.

I've had 60mk1, 60 mk2, 4000 and 3000LE in a QL-400 and it has always been quite sturdy. Having said that I also had two QL-400's with slightly different locking mechanisms, one was noticeably 'looser' than the other. It had to go.

You can check how much side-to-side or up-and-down play there is when the MPC is locked in the stand at an angle. You dont want these things moving when you're hittin the pads. Dont forget to lock the castors if your model has them.

The big boy MPC's are all safe in the QL-400, its the little plastic MPC's that kinda look out of place.

No problem man. Just be careful when tightening the bolts on the width extensions. On a couple of my stands, when I tried to tighten the bolts the plastic cap got to a point of tension where it just slipped on the metal beneath it-so I really couldn't tighten the arms as good as I thought would be safe. The easy fix was to drop a dab of super-glue in the plastic cap, then tap the metal bolt in. I let it sit overnight to dry and now I can be certain that even if the horizontal support arms are loose, she's safe, nomatter how steep the angle is. Watch out for the plastic height-adjust handle as it's a cheap plastic that will break if tightened too much-happened to me. Cats with older stands probably have nothing to fear because when production was in Italy, QuikLok made high-quality stuff. Not saying every stand is a lemon now but 3 out of 7 stands I bought had to be returned because they were either missing pieces or were designed poorly. The last stand I had to send back was this one:

They literally forgot to machine holes on one side; the guy at the music store couldn't believe it when I showed him. The QA at QuikLok has gone to complete sh*t. Here's a great review for ya:

Hope it works out for ya man. Just get some super-glue if the plastic cap slips and be careful when tightening the height adjustment. Make it tight of course but not too tight. I went too tight and broke it with just my bare hands with minimal effort so take it easy. A good test is to tighten the height handle, then tighten the holder once it's in a horizontal position, then lean a bit of weight on it, pressing down. Think of what your MPC weighs and try to put at least that much pressure when you push down. As long as the post doesn't move, you're good. Most people who use these stands for MPCs have it at the lowest height-setting anyway so as long as the support cap underneath is tight, you can be sure the post won't move, but the stand will definitely still wobble. The extra weight (playing pressure) on the pads will be a factor too. As long as you have it angled steep enough the pressure won't be an issue. All this being said, there is no **** way I'd trust one of these to my 4000. Imo, the stands currently manufactured are not secure enough for the weight of the 4K. Hopefully, you got lucky and your stand was one of those made in Italy. Clint seems to have bought a few of the good ones.

great info! thanks for the heads up.. I will for sure post an update on the product once it arrives at the shop and I pick it up.. I bought it new.. so chances aren't looking good that it's an old model.

The idea did cross my mind that it might not be too sturdy.. though, I admit... I dont slam the pads like boon doc. I did think about maybe seeing how stable it would be without the casters even plugged in.. not sure if that is possible yet as i dont have one and haven't seen one in person.

Shouldn't that lamp in front of your left monitor be positioned elsewhere?

Or is it there just for pictorial purposes? :hmmm:

BTW, nice setup!

Sick, I see a lot of kool stuff in this picture. Can you name some of this gear ? (my eyes are all over that multi-track looking thing in the bottom shelf)
I see a tape machine too! hows the sound on that model? Ive been thinking of grabbing one myself. Can you shed some light on what exactly I should be looking for, what it comes to a Tape machine?

I can, I repair them as a hobby. You wanna get one that works, and make sure the capstan wheel(distinguishible by a rubber ring)turns, that the tensioners operate and aren't overly loose or tight, and before you plug it in, take the face off and oil it.
Most parts are labeled in opwners manuals, and alot are available on the net. Happy huntin bro, and PM me if you have more questions.
