problem with my mpc100

So i've been having an issue with sample playback on my mpc1000.

I can load samples onto the sd card that are recognized by the mpc, and I can hear playback when I'm on the "trim" screen. However, when I create a program I cannot hear the samples when I hit the pads to assign them. It's showing that my mpc registers as loading them, but when I use the program I still cannot hear the samples.

Is anyone else having this issue??? It's been plaguing me for a while.

you can load 'em and do stuff to them on trim mode (play using pads) but unable to play them in a program?


diagnosis: lack of rtfm.

have you assigned the sample to a pad in the program screen after loading the sound?

i've loaded the samples and assigned them to pads in the program screen. however, when i try to playback the sample in the program screen or on the main playback screen after i've made the program, i can't hear the samples. i can only hear them on the trim screen.

i've read the manual, and tried to diagnose the problem to no avail. this problem was actually the catalyst for me signing for this forum. but in your ultimate wisdom if you could put away the condescension and give me any insight it would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, let's do this:

* Put 16bit 44.1khz wav sample to your cf card
* Press [MODE] + [LOAD] (and load it to ram)
* Press [MODE] + [TRIM] (PAD6) (and confirm that it's there and plays correctly)
* Press [MODE] + [PROGRAM] (PAD7).
* Select the Pgm-field and press [WINDOW]
* Press [F3] (NEW) key to name and create new program.
* Confirm this by pressing [F5] (DO IT).
* Now that you have new program, hit PAD1 (or any other pad you wish to assign the sample to).
* Select the "1:" -field and use the DATA scrollwheel to select the sample to this.
* NOW when you hit the same pad you should hear the sample.

also make sure that you are playing from the same bank as the samples are assigned to.

guys i know how to make a program by assigning samples to pads.

even when i do all of the steps that you listed, i still can only hear samples playback when i'm in the "trim" function (mode + pad6) and not when i create a program (in the program window or in the main window after creating a new program). this also occurs regardless of whether i create a new program or use the default new program "program 01".

Do they play when full level is on?

^^^ they will only play in the "trim" window. the "full-level" will affect the velocity when i'm in the trim window but nowhere else.

So for anyone who's interested, I was advised by Akai that I may have had samples, programs or other various files/folders saved to the root file of my MPC internal memory. This apparently disrupts the firmware somehow and makes the MPC "behave erratically". All I had to do was remove my external memory card, and power on the MPC while holding the erase button. This is essentially like a factory reset and it restored the original settings to what they were when I originally bought the MPC.
