See here

The guy in the 7 Minutes of Sound - SP1200 Beats is Grap Luva (a friend of Damu and the brother of Pete Rock). Damu is only filming him in that video.

@Major100 I say go for it and buy one at a good price. My opinion I don't think they are over rated. I never understand how someone can get a certain sound like a certain machine if they never owned one or worked countless of hours on one in a studio. To me that's like the sports anchor who doesn’t have athletic bone in his body tell you how you lack certain fundamentals and they never ran a route on the football field or attempted a layup on the b-ball court. Lol

It takes all the guessing work out of the equation. So you can focus more time on making your music. Then when the time comes for you to move to newer technology it's easier to make that software or hardware sound like that vintage equipment.

Good luck!!

The akai S950 price is increasing lately on eBay. I remember seeing them frequently going for no more than $250.00 eight months ago. Now they are ranging $350.00-$500.00.

+1

It really depends on what you are trying to achieve and your work flow. Supply and demand therefore the reason why it is overpriced these days. One reason why I mainly use the S950 is the filter for bass. I purchased mine three years ago for $240 with maxed out RAM. I would never spend the amount for what they are going now.
