MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

Hey guys,

I bought a second hand MPC earlier this year, it was actually purchased brand new in February by the original owner.

Every now and then I'll be working on the 5k and the screen will just start blinking. It's very sporadic and doesn't happen every time I use it but when I do use it, the blinking won't go away until the unit's been turned off for 1-2 hours.

Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone know how to go about this?

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help. P.s. this is my first post on this forum haha - woot!

Sounds like it's on its way out.

It might be worth opening it up and making sure all the connectors and ram are seated properly. Other than that it's probably the screen dying a slow death unfortunately.

That's a really *hit go. I just called the store in which it was purchased from (I received the receipt when I purchased it from my friend) and they said they'll get back to me today to see if there's someone local who can repair it under warranty - fingers crossed.

I didn't even know that there were Akai repairers in Sydney, Australia.

I had the same experience with a MPC 1000 of mine.
After i checked the inside i found out that some capacitors from the power unit were starting to leak and there was a wire from this board not soldered properly.

So this could mean that the Screen is not getting its power correctly or something is close to getting bugged out.

Guess you have to check your hardware and especially the power supply unit in your MPC. :|

It has extra memory, this is the first MPC I've owned so I'm not too sure on how to go about all of this...

I'm still waiting on the retailer to get back to me with a repairer in Sydney, it's been 2 days so I'm guessing there must be an issue with locating one...

I'm secretly hoping that they can't find a repairer and I have the option of a cash back. This whole experience has put me off a bit, I know a lot of people are into the whole "open the unit up/self diagnosis thing" but I just want to make music...

Ah well... time will tell. Lol from what I can see AkaiPro virtually doesn't exist in Australia. It's a shame though, such a great machine.

Just insist on money back

Yeah I will try when I speak to them on Monday. I'm going to call back on Monday (it's now Friday night)... I'm not too sure which country you're in but consumer law here allows the retailer to pursue the option of a repair prior to refunding the product

You could get around this, if they just get anyone to do it, just say you want them to be a certified Akai repair person/service. If they aint they you don't want them to touch the machine and then get cash back.

You never know, it might get repaired and be ok but i'd rather have one that hadn't **** up once before

You know what you're exactly right. Thanks heaps for the advise! I'm actually really looking forward to my conversation with them on Monday now...

I'll definitely keep you posted with the progress of this.
