well my drive used to click but i think it was my disk....but anyway i downloaded the latest OS and unzipped it to my floppy disk and it solved the problem. even though you think its your drive try downloading the os again and putting it on a floppy and try it again. maybe it'll help.

thats all i can suggest. dont know anything else

dude, its just a standard floppy drive which costs about £4. undo the screws on the underside of your 2000xl, take out the plugs from the back of the broken drive, stick in a new drive, put the plugs back in, do up the screws, bingo!

its a very simple operation. you can get floppy drive for real cheap from www.ebuyer.com

Im guessing your're in the US:

when i spoke to the repair centre they said you cant install a standard floppy disk drive.

the guy said that the mpc compaitable drive costs over £80

is this a fib then?

2 things.
1. Customer Service people tell others that you need a special floppy drive cause they don't know any better
or
2. They just want to get more money from you.

It's a standard floppy drive, the SAME kind you have in your PC. Just buy another one from ANY pc store in your area and install it, the exact way beauchampy described.
