NEVER make strong arm look like a good option or like you are daring someone to do it.
Here's the thing mc's carry dead weight, it their hype factor.
These are the people or person who make them feel their sh*t is hot, so they like to have them around.
Yeah sometimes these are cruddy individuals sometime they aren't.
Best protection know who you are dealing with and have some credibility.
Helps to keep you off the menu. If they are looking for something they will look somewhere else cause the word is out to leave you alone and let you do your thing.
You don't really have to be in the streets just known in the streets.
If that's not an option take your tracks somewhere else to do the vocals if you are that uncomfortable.

it's worked for me so far, but like everyone said make your own rules and stick to 'em. some cats don't mind others in the studio, some do....to each his own.

My thing is regardless if it my set or we are working somewhere else I need people to be up for the game.
I don't mean you have to be Jay and do it in one take but nothings worse than when every take gets worse and worse.
Much about hip hop is ego, and ego is a beast that has a dangerous appetite.
Check this, a lot of cats I deal with bring females with them.
It's a trip because these are females with lyrical and writing skills who actually listen and help them fix problems.
I guess it all comes down to what level of people you are dealing with and what level of the game they perceive you at.
Just do what you gotta do to keep your game safe.

I've been living in Brooklyn for 8yrs now, straight from the Bronx and not one of these cats tried any pushing up or testing bullsh1t cause they don't know me and maybe people can tell the way that you carry yourself not to fVck with him. Street cred can get you deaded ,it's funny a young artist told me one day he was going to a Dipset video shoot so he can have some street cred, I had to school him that's not how you get street cred. You can get street cred by getting stomped out
everyday and still fighting back and people can vouch for it "Yeah he's cool every week he be out here fighting" Street cred is over hyped as long as I can get from point A to B without nobody f'ing with me is good enough street cred for me. I think knowing the streets is street cred, how things operate so that you can stay alive another day. If you present yourself like prey you'll get preyed apon. I could care less if a artist want's to go somewhere else to record, like I said I have a job this is just a lil something on the side, a lil independence from the man.

It just creates a new mentality.
As I said being in the streets and being known in the streets is 2 different things.
Being known in the streets gives you the ability to do your thing without trouble because people know to let you do your thing.
That's just what you said, in slightly different words.
They see you everyday, may not know your name but maybe heard little whispers about you.
Since they don't have enough fact they look at how you carry yourself and if you look suspect.
Since you don't bring problems they just let you do your thing.
It's not like you are challenging them or anything or trying to know their business.
Street credibility is the ability to survive not street association.
Problem with street association is their trouble is your trouble, real easy to get caught up.
Guns usta make sense and seem, but loosing a couple of cousins and the birth of my son put life in perspective for me.

as far street cred, i aint known in the streets, in a matter of fact ppl, dont even see me, or know m schedule, i am like a monk, u only see me when "we" doing s....

plus also i am jamaican, tht speaks for it self , and i make my beats speak for me.

in the uk here, every where has a cctv. put a camrea in the studio. recording the sessions. the signing is good, but a cat could put down a wrong name, at least you got his face on cctv. you could make it visible, thts what i am gonna do, reason being, prevention is better than cure. have the monitor in the corner so they can watch them selves on tv.

i am a man i dont laugh, and i am ugly as sin. and i keep it that way. professional. no "hi " "how you doing man" holmes, frined shi.. when he bring a million cats.

guns for me are a no no. "guns are just an extension of a mans penis. and if you got a 12guage, u crushing his ego cause he may got a .22." thts a tricky game. i got like samurai sword sets on the wall, plus i gonna get a batcliff, (its tht weapon used in star trek)

i dont speak a whole great deal either, i wear latex gloves, and shadesmost times with an extra latge hood, or army gear.
