It's not your fault that you're new to MPCs.

What members want is a full warts-and-all review - maybe even a thorough teardown of the hardware - and that's not something I would expect you to carry out.

Enjoy your new purchase, learn it well... and avoid hanging around this place too much.

I've noticed a lot of people are obsessed with 'vintage mode' on the new box. What are you expecting from this? Used as a VST or AU plugin in a DAW you'll be able to introduce ANY tonal color into the signal chain and I can ASSURE you, there are about 100 plugins that will be able to duplicate the sound of the unit's 'vintage mode'. The fact that it can be used as a plugin makes vintage mode an afterthought. It's all about improving workflow and the quality of your music. Will it do that? Chances are it will but I'm sittin it out for awhile till the smoke clears...just in case.

The actual hardware output is supposed to be the exact replica of the 3000 and we wanna hear it.The rest are software emulations! That is all

When I get some time this week, I will load the same sample into my MPC 2500, 3000, 4000, and the Ren's Vintage Mode to see if you all can tell which is which.

I have said these numerous times over the years....this forum failed picking out the MPC 2500 and MPC 3000 when I posted samples. I am a betting man....I suspect the same results.

Proving my point. Vintage mode is an afterthought. It's all about workflow.

What are the size and time constraints on samples the sampler can load? How long can samples be?

I dont want to play sample games, I just want to hear the MPC REN's vintage mode output and compare for myself. It doesnt take but 5 mins to do what WE are asking.

59 minutes, 59 seconds. But I have never tried recording that length of a sample. I will try it now.

I will post links to all samples at once (MPC 2500, 3000, 4000, and 4 Ren samples with/without the Vintage Modes). I will use the analog outs of all these MPCs connected to the analog inputs of my Apollo interface. I will use the same TRS cables for each MPC. I will use Pro Tools for recording the audio files.

I'm serious. All these guys DEMANDING new Ren owners take time to put something together for them so they can make their mind up on whether they'll cop it or not. A] surely you're not basing your purchase on 1 feature? and B] they've JUST got it, they wanna play with it and get comfortable themselves before they cater to your demands. and C] they can't go out and get a Ren tomorrow if the Vintage Mode is as they expect so what's the rush?

Meaning we can load in an .mp3 or .wav that's up to an hour long and begin chopping?

I'm a long-time lurker on this forum but have never registered or posted. I'm a big fan of sample-based music and MPC's but never ever bought one as preferred more DAW-like computer based setups and just used pad midi controllers.

With the launch of the Ren & Studio, i'm VERY excited! This is exactly what i've wished for for years!

I've nearly bit and considered buying Maschine a few times but it has a lot of flaws and restrictions although some of these have been fixed with the new update, the Ren&Studio still have the edge for me because of the more DAW-like visualisation and workflow.

I do have some questions for the guys who've got their Ren's ...

- Can the 16 Q-Link controllers be setup to control different parameters/effects across different pads/instruments(plugins)?
(e.g If I was playing a song live could I have the 16 knobs assigned to tweak different instruments/samples/parameters etc that werent all within the same bank - so to tweak instruments on other banks I wouldnt have to switch to that bank?)
That make sense?

- External Controllers? Anyone tried plugging in an external controller to tweak parameters or create automation yet?
For me this would be a deal breaker for buying either the Studio or the Ren. For portability for live performance I would get Studio and use an iPad running TouchOSC or similar program to create banks of knobs to tweak parameters per song (assuming this is possible and the answer to the first question is 'yes').
This is possible on the Maschine but it's NOT possible to record this automation. Wondering if it WAS possible on Ren/Studio.

- When assigning to the 16 pads within a bank, can for example the bottom 8 pads be different drum hits (bass, snare, hats etc) and the top 8 be keys from a midi instrument/plugin?
(I'm thinking like the "unlike any other" video Jeremy Ellis did for Maschine where he's got drums on the bottom 8 and the top 8 buttons are maybe a synth vst rather than samples?)

I believe the Ren drops next weekend here in the UK. I for one am VERY excited!
I might end up waiting until the new Maschine comes out so I can go into a shop and have a play with both to see what suits me better.
Judging by the video by SoundsforSamplers though, I think I already got my answer! Looks like Akai really knocked out a MUCH easier workflow than Maschine, MUCH more user friendly.
