Midi Controller?

What is the purpose for a midi controller keyboard? Is it necessary in most setups?

well lets work this out chief. U have a midi production center right? so now what do u think a midi controller keyboard would do? maybe operate the sounds in the mpc? a midi controller is the mpcs pads. it is controlling the mpcs sampler which has the sounds in it. Now that is built into the mpc. cause it is a drum sampler/rhythm machine. A controller keyboard is controllin the mpcs sampler with keys not the pads. so that means u can trigger sounds from the mpc with the keyboard. they also make all diff kinds of ones like flute controllers, guitars, whatver. keyboards work for me the best.

But if you have other MIDI sound modules, then you will benefit from a MIDI controller to play them. (Some pholks swear by the E-Mu MoPhatt, other pholks swear at it.) You could even have a keyboard synth, which you can treat as controller + sound module.

Prolly a bit off topic here, but for someone in Blackest's situation, is it worth buying a rack synth and a midi keyboard and then using that keyboard for any other synths you might buy in the future. Or if you can, would it be better to buy a synth/keyboard (eg. e-mu mk-6)? Or does it just depend on the equipment?
