Anybody try the Software without the controllor? Say mpk?

Anybody try using the software without the controllor? Say a mpk ect...?

The pdf says the software wont run without the ren/studio connected.
is that wrong?

Software is silent unless the ren is connected.However I can't test it with an mpd

Well I am not tricking it with my trigger finger usb or roland electronic drum kit.. When I first plugged in the mpc it's serial popped up on the screen so it may use that to verify

I'd imagine this would mean the audio device would have to be set to an sound card other than the Ren's.

This is not accurate (unless there are some changes). When you disconnect the hardware, you should get a message that indicates the software will not output any audio until the controller is reattached. This doesn't matter if you are using the Ren's audio interface or a 3rd party interface.

So it looks like if you just want to use the software, buying the Studio is how one would do that. Keep it connected and ignore it. Though I would not suggest that.

Just to give an example. Say I leave my mpc on.. turn the software off.. then the software back on.. I have to restart the mpc's power and sometimes it takes two times for the software to recognize it's even connected.

But when you first plug it in, it tells you all your mpcs info and automatically registers it for you basically.. otherwise you can only run a demo version of the software (look at above post for example) imakemadbeats has the answer in his signature already

Are you on PC/Mac? Which operating system?

Typically, you would turn on the hardware and the launch the software. You should be able to close, open, close, etc the software multiple times...and have the hardware and software communicate.

Do you have sleep mode turn on in your computer?
