Ren vs JJOS vs MPC 3000/60 [Vintage sound shootout]

so the dude defo recorded these via the ren outs to take advantage of the circuit switching as opposed to exporting them?

ive yet to come across an emulation that captures the lo-fi but warm 12 bith , added harmonics, smoothness of the mpc60

it can be done but no vintage mode seems to give th einstant magic tonality that i seek may have to actually cop a 60 and put a zip drive or data card reader cos i thought the ren was gonna do the biz

The S-950 is the same sound components, but with more options. It would be cheaper to get the S-950 rack, you could also still sequence from the Ren. That is IF the MPC 60 emulation isn't up to snuff. Bit of a workflow killer though. I suppose you could look at it as an outboard effect and once you're done making your beat run each track through. Doesn't sound like fun, but the end result might be worth it.

Pete said in the Gearslutz Forum that part of the emulation is software. I was just using Maschine and looking at its plugin manager. All the MPC plugins are displayed to include the MPC 3000, MPC 60 and SP1200 plugins.

C and E are the only ones that sound distinct from the others. C sounds like the MPC 60. Everything else sounds basically the exact same as the original. This shit is pointless because at the end of the day, the difference, even with C and E is so small no listener is going to notice, nor even give a shit. I don't know why people care so much about this vintage bullshit!

At the end of the day if it sounds good it is good.

The difference's are so small it's only noticeable next to each other.

Imagine listening to each file a day apart.. No one would be able to tell the difference....

If it's pitched big the expectations are going to be big. A lot a people watching the video are wondering if they are going to essentially get 3 MPs and an SP (characterwise) built in to the Ren.

I lot of people thought they would be getting Vintage MPs plus the SP (characterwise) built into the Ren . Big claims result in bigger expectations.

So really this poll isn't asking which is best, but, does it matter?

Is there any sound there you clearly want? If so, is it produced by the MPC Ren?

If the answer is yes, then this poll is saying the Vintage mode is a worthy feature.

If the answer is no, then this poll is saying Vintage mode is irrelevant.

If the answer is yes, but it's produced by a non-Ren machine, then it's saying the Vintage mode is a feature people wanted, but the MPC Ren's implementation fails to deliver.

When I turn on Vintage Mode, and cycle through the different emulations, you can clearly hear audible differences.

Even though I voted just because, the answer to this question to me would be a resounding "no". I chose the lesser of the evils in this case but they all sounded like varying degrees of poor fidelity with subtle, yet insignificant differences between them. When listening to the originals, looped in a DAW, the differences are perceptible but negligible at best and not a sound I like or would personally pay extra money for. That's not to say that there aren't other viable reasons to want these units or emulations though, for those that do. No offense to the OP, RunningOnE or such.

I still don't know what the poll is about though.
