Anybody Else Not Sampling? **NO BEEF PLEASE**

With that said to explain my personal reasons (I think we all have our own):
1. How do you say.. I am the suck... I am the suck real bad... lol
I want to get real good and learning and understand is the path I choose to take... I feel (maybe I'm wrong) with so little experience and skill... that sampling is really going to coverup my weaknesses more than improve my ability to work
2. I agree 100% with your post... when I get more skills I will be able to understand how to use samples appropriately.... I'd rather sampling be just another one of my weapons in the arsenal.. than it be my go to piece...

CLIFF NOTES: I think sampling is an art and you can learn a lot by doing it.. but I rather start from scratch and build up from there than build my whole skill set around sampling if that makes sense... i feel the same way about "loops"


EDIT: FWIW... just so yall know I started off sampling way back when and it just didn't feel right to me eit...

As in multitimbral. Meaning, depending on the capabilities of the sampler, it can produce different voices at the same time.

Yes, plus you can add multiple layers to thicken up the sound or add texture. There's infinite possibilities.

Forum member -niN has produced a nice little experimental piece with nothing other than noise and feedback. You couldn't produce that without using a sampler and having some mastery of it.

^^ really cool stuff... again didn't want to turn it into a sample debate ...cause we are all using samples ...even if I use a drum kit (recorded by me or not - so it is a silly debate to me) ...

I am talking about taking sections of existing music... I decided to go the start from scratch route... not that it is better or more creative for a fact but it is where I am starting from... I want to be more of the drum programmer type of guy in the group

So are you in a group? If so, what sort of stuff are you making?

I am not in a group ....yet ... but I plan to start a production house/team .... I think that's how it works... very few lone wolf super producers out there...

What? If you dont sample you are stupid. Go spend $200 on a good turntable, go diggin in old dusty garages, basements, attics, etc... find that vinyl and look for samples. If you arent doing that, then your making beats wrong.Now its beef!!

Well, you can only go as far as your talent will take you. Now on that note, that statement can be turned around as well..."What? If you don't play a (fill in the blank for guitar, keyboard, bass, etc.) you are stupid". Well, I doubt the musicians that made all these countless recordings that most folks are sampling these days were anywhere near being "stupid".

A statement like this makes those that play as well as sample look like geniuses.

I am trying to stay away from sampling especially as a new producer... It's tough but I made up my mind... The cons are a lot of my beats sound the same to me... and I think that I am more so perfecting the same beat rather than making new grooves every session... so a lot of my hustle is getting beat kits and new kicks and snares etc...

Eventually I will do some sampling but I want to have this in the pocket first... plus I am finding some producers are just drum programmers (me basically) and some are great arrangers and samplers (me later basically)
