Hard Panned Samples

I'm considering a new approach to going through my records for samples.

Once I've listened to the LP once go through it twice more with the only the left and then the right channel plugged in to get those hard panned gold nuggets.

Anyone else try this, or am I just wasting my time?

Yeah when I chop in recycle there's an option to make it mono using only the left or right I usually do it that way. Sometimes you can snag a crazy isolated drum break. But in the MPC I would just sample stereo and isolate it from there, less destructive/less work.

You can split a stereo sample into 2 mono samples in the MP.....The stereo samples should both be panned anyways.

you can automate the panning in the mpc, i like to use the Q-links and do it live just so i can easily do the tweaks in time with the beats and usually the whole program at once, but i think you can also open up the mixer and do it sound by sound and create more interestign effects where sounds "follow" eachother around so to speak.. anyway, i tend to use drum programs that contain hits that arent all dead center, so when panning a whole program at once, some hits will get pushed futher, and others may instead get brought to center or beyond and towards the other direction.

some Q-link live panning in this track, although it doesnt happen much until later on in the clip and i dont pan fully to the left or right




personally, i would not render hits with a new pan setting, as just loading up the sounds and keeping them stereo/as they are and insterad doing it while mixing in the mpc or in the daw, you can still go back if something doesnt turn out well, and they dont become static as you can still have them move around and go back and forth etc etc

Been there, done that and still doing it. Its an old school method.
