Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi people. Wondered if anyone might have clue whats going wrong for me. I have a 2k classic and load the OS from zip and have an .ALL file on the same disk to load up all my midi channels and settings on. The OS loads without problem but when it tries to load the .ALL file it says 'SCSI read error'. I then have to either turn the zip off and on or flick the termination switch on the back a few times until eventually the .ALL file will load.

I don't have a problem with loading any other file type; it's just this pesky .ALL file that's the problem. Anyone have the same problem, or can think of a possible solution? I had a search but couldn't find this exact problem

Thanks

my guess is your problem is the zip disk itself.

probably the most unreliable media you can use - i would put effort into either a floppy system or a card reader or even a hard drive.

good luck.

floppy is slow... but it aint worth losing to zip disks and drives...

This does sound like an issue with the zip drive... I think someone had a similar if not the exact same issue with a zip and an mpc3000 last month or so.

Zip drives and disks can die a slow death. Backup drives and disks can help you get by for awhile -- you can get these cheap if you are not shopping on eBay.

Your local computer repair center may have these taking up space and may cut you a deal to get rid of them.
