Say you have 32 samples (Sample 001-Sample 032) spread out across banks A and B. You turn on 16 Level tuning for Pad A01. So now you can only use Pads A01-A16 to play the tuning of 1 sample; all other sounds are not accessible. But then you change to Bank B and you can play Sample 017-Sample 032. That is what you mean? That would certainly be something that no other MPC can accomplish.

LMSW wrote:Here's another feature request. When chopping a sample outside of Bank A, the audition should be maintained in the bank where the sample was placed. Excuse my language, but why in the hell do we have to go to bank A to audition chops from samples placed in other banks? Is it me?

I don't follow you on this one. Are you having issues with:
1. Load drum loop
2. Enter Sample Edit Chop Mode; set Chop by 32 Regions
3. Press AUDITION button
4. You can now audition 32 slices across banks A and B.

Now if you are talking about Sample Edit Trim Mode, the Bank Buttons don't have a function.

Also, a SOLO option in the program mixer, opposite to where M for Mute is now.

I think this is a huge opportunity for Akai to implement an improved mixer on the level found in the leading DAWs. The MPC Ren is already improved over hardware MPCs...but I think many would love to see this taken to another level.

For right now, if you want to compress all the sounds of 1 drum program, you assign this program to a track. And in the Track Mixer, you add a compressor. Now a single compressor is applied to your entire drum kit.

Jah, the answer to the first question is yes.

The second feature suggestion is the following: if I am chopping a sample into 8 parts that I loaded in Bank D--Pad 1, when I audition the chops I have to go to Bank A--Pads 1-8. I don't understand why the audition would not remain in Bank D and spread to Pads 1-8. However, I think it may have something to do with the way Program functions in the Ren.

+1
Every mixer channel strip should have a way to bypass/turn-off effects.

In MPC Ren terms, can you explain specifically what you are doing step by step? Which Modes you are in? From what I gather what you are trying to do, the Ren is no different than any MPC:

1. Divide drum loop into a slices in Chop Mode; Convert Slices
2. Assign these slices to Pads D01-D08

In Main, Program Edit, and Program Mix modes, striking pads in Bank A will not trigger any slices. Change to Pad Bank D, and you can now trigger your slices.

I will get back to you on the above.

Another one: be able to erase tracks while sequence is playing.

Another one: It would be nice to be able to access the sample edit window by double clicking on the name of the sound on the grid name listing. Right now we have to go to the Project Information "Sample" area.

It would be great if when editing a sample and trimming the start and end points, the division line on the controller moved as smoothly as the line on the software. Sometimes I have to turn it, and when focusing only on the controller, I have to stop moving the qlink to see where it's currently at in the sample.

Also. The ability to edit track names from the Track Mixer in the software...would be great.

Edit - you can edit names above the track mixer, in the region edit layout....which is good enough.

May have been already mentioned...

Similar to the 2000xl,
the ability to change the program on a midi track from the main screen would be great, but having that available anywhere on the hardware controller will do.

REAL TIME TIMESTRETCH

Word on the street is that Maschine 1.8 will have this. (Makes sense. Kontakt can do it, so they have the tech) However, I do not want to buy another Maschine. To clarify, not the Patch Phrase thing for drums. True RTTS, that can be used for polyphonic compositions with vocals / multipe instruments. Sample is locked to a certain tempo, and you can pitch shift chops up and down without changing the tempo.

Would like to be able to click on the chop (highlight it) and press the + / - keys to quickly change pitch. 16 Levels of tempo synced pitch change would also be a part of the package.

I dont want to use the MPC Ren with Ableton. I want to use it instead of Ableton. I really have no other use for Ableton.
