This happens to me when using Maschine's knobs to chop/trim so might not be a bug, apparently dust under the knob can cause this (happened with my Maschine straight out the box)

Turn '0 Snap' off and see if you have better results.

Huh? I have no idea where or what that is. Unless you're referring to the snap button but I thought that was for use inside of DAWs :hmmm:

Yeah I discovered that on day one, specifically when dealing with x1 trimming. The snap on renders x1 trimming almost null and void...

But that doesn't change the original problem... thanks for the suggestion though.

What about JJ OSXL files?

I'll cover this in my review, up tomorrow. In summary, pretty good, basically identical to standard Akai OS MPC1000 project files except for one tedious issue; any sequence track that is 'DRUM' in JJOSXL is seen as a 'MIDI' track in the MPC Software. So, every track in every sequence needs to be manually set as an 'MPC' track in the Ren, and then double check that the correct program is assigned.

Now, as far as standard MPC1000 PRJ compatibility goes (and hence all JJOS compatibility), I basically found that most program params are transferred except mute groups/targets, LFO and velocity sensitive stuff like V>Att etc. But things like ADSR, layers, velocity ranges, tuning, filter settings and mixer settings are transferred. Sequences and songs are also exact apart from qlink events (ignored in the one I tested - realtime tuning). Program params are often 'adjusted' because the range of the ren's params runs from 0 to 127 rather than 0 to 100 as per legacy MPCs. So a LPF FREQ of 73 converts to 93 in the Ren

The main thing that is missing are effects. I've yet to find any MPC whose effects are transferred over - the Ren ignores all effects settings, so these will have to be re-applied.

But on the whole it's pretty good for all 'numark era' MPCs - MPC5000 PRJ fair the best, all program params there, just the effects missing (that I can see, I'll test it all further when I get the chance). JJOS XL users will be fairly happy I think - as long as they accept having to check every single sequencer track in every project they transfer

I think I found a bug in the Preferences "Audio Section". I am able to select my Allen & Heath ZED 16 (Firewire) channel as an AUDIO Output. However, I am trying to make channels 15-16 (stereo pair) my Output Channels. I use these 2 channels as my main Output channels for everything coming out of my Mac.

When clicking on the Audio Test The signal does output on channels 15-16 as I wanted (all channels still selected), but will not play sequences at all. Nor, trigger audio from the samples on pads.

After some Q/A and frustration, I was able to get channels 1-2 on A&H ZED 16 as an Output for the MPC. All 16 channels are still selected on Preferences still, but sound is only coming out of channels 1-2. Weird.

As it stands, you are absolutely not able to de-select the other channels, and or just select channels 15-16 (stereo) as an Output.

I think I should be able to route the output to whatever channel I should want on my mixer. Kinda frustrating as I use channels 1-2, as post EQ's sends for 2 of my synthesizers.

Yep, turning off the Snap to Zero does tighten it up! However, that Snap to Zero is a nice feature when you are getting close to your truncate points. Guess I'll be flipping it on and off. But we gotta get a better software Zoom on this piece. The hardware sample edit is straight unusable for me.

First off, OSX 10.6.8 is out of date, I would suggest to any1 with a mac to update your system to OSX Lion for optimal performance, this might solve some issues... just saying

Thankfully there doesnt seem to be too many bugs yet.

Also, why are some of you guys so caught up with loading old mpc files? Is it that you want to add vintage sound/new effects/more tracks etc to your old beats? Just wondering....?

What I see is that when using an external audio interface, the Ren will automatically activate up to 16 audio channels. These channels are always active. If you have an audio card that has 17-18 output channel and you activate it, it will deactivate another stereo out.

The Ren's mixer defaults to outputs 1/2. If you want to use different outs, you have to change the mixer's outputs to 15/16.

What do you feel needs to be improved in terms of hardware sample editing?

 i said this on page one. i also think this would help, if they update. i would go straight to Mountain Lion.

don't mean to hijack the thread but

curious... does that version of cubase have halion one? if so, have you tried using Halion as a VST with the ren?

No Halion.

I am able to open the Ren inside Cubase, Maschine, and a G14 classified DAW. I got to busy and forgot to try Logic. Will try that later today.

so there's no Halion in that version of cubase? I'm not interested in using the REN inside cubase, logic or pro tools. i was just wondering about the vst's that are in those programs to use as VSTs in the REN.

Running iMac 10.6.8, 4 gb RAM, MPC Software v 1.0

Having issues with using AU and VST instruments. Using Korg Legacy (VST's) they will scan ok, however, once I start making a track, I get to track 3 and the software crashes. Using the M1 and Polystix VST. Once I get to track 3, click on the edit button to change sound, the sofware crashes. Using the latest versions of the VST.
The weird thing is ..... the AU instruments don't crash after track 3, only the VST's do

Also having an issue with Massive, Absynth and B4 (AU's). Will scan okay.
Once I pull the synth up to edit, when I hit a key on my controller, the note will continue to play even after I let it go. Using an MPK 61 controller USB'd to my computer.
The weird thing is .... the VST instruments don't hold notes once I press them, only the AU's do.

Also, attempted to use Sonivox Hip Hop Strings VST, while scanning, "fatal error" message comes up and crashes the software instantly. Had to remove that one completely.

Truly messes up the workflow trying to remember which ones will crash and which ones won't.

I know this has been touched upon before, but how likeley is it that the MPC Software should not be running on Snow Leopard at all? Anyone else experiencing something like this ?

Called Akai tech support today, on hold for too long after 3 tries.

Correction. There is a version of Halion inside Cubase. The Ren and Maschine will not see the plugins that ship with Cubase. Likewise, Cubase can't use the Instrument or Effect plugins that come with the Ren and Maschine.
