Should I sell my MPC?

So I used to work with FL STUDIO for over 2 years before I jumped to CUbase SX 3 and eventually Cubase 5.I defenetly mastered my work flow on Cubase 5 with Trilian and Omnisphere and samples.Nevertheless, I made the mistake to let other people get in my ear as far as what gear I NEED to make beats EASIER which I knew before could mean trouble.What works for them might not work for you.Also I am a huge fan of J Dilla & Boon Doc, Pete Rock and knew they all worked with MPC's.So about 7 months ago I eventually bought the MPC 1000.Just as with Cubase, to better and master the workflow on something, it always takes time.Nevertheless, 7 months later, I got a lil bit better at it, as far as getting my drums a little bit more "organic" or whatever you want to call it, natural, not so quantized, but I still could have done all that within Cubase & VSTs alot faster.I dont feel like it enhanced my workflow.Almost kinf of held me back.I feel like selling it.It still has garantie on it for 2 years on thomann to.Should I still give it some time or should I sell it?

Well done, you've answered your own question.

MPC's don't suit everyones workflow, you just can't force it.

You gave it a shot and could always return to the 1000 later down the line should you regret selling up.

Can you afford to have capital tied up in gear that's not being used?

Unfortunately for you, both Clint and Lamp are right. Only you can decide if it's something you should keep or sell. Personally I fall in the don't sell camp. I dont use my MPCs every day but occasionally rediscover them. Been spending the last week, making beats for a few hours each day with my 500 while I'm traveling. I hadn't used it in months before that.

Just know, you will probably take a loss on the 1000 though, especially with that warranty intact.

All depends on your situation, if your in need of some cash and its just sitting there, get rid of it.

If i was in your situation and i wouldnt necessarily need the $$ from selling the MP i would keep. Even if its not your most productive piece of equipment, ull always have the option of going back to bang on your MPC if you ever need a break from the computer based options. I personally purchased an MPC for that purpose, always thought it was nice to have a bit of variety for when im tired of a software. I just happened to fall in love with it and its now my main tool in all my productions.

it's one of those questions that's asked every once in a while here, and one that nobody can give a good answer for.

everyone's preferred workflow and methods are different, that's why we have so many options for music making.

personally, I'd say keep it. but that is irrelevant to what's right for you.

Well, first of all, thanks for all the anoust & kind replies & not flamming me.

I think I will sell it. All of you have valid pointst.If i had more money, I would propably keep it to, JUST IN CASE, Im more fond to deal with it again.Right now,to be anoust, I radther have equipment I use on a everyday base then one I hardly work with & somebody else can make better usage of.When I already had the Omnisphere Synth, I still saved up some money to buy myself a used Motif ES 7 Keyboard, although I couldn't play then and still learning now, I dont regret it because it has classic sounds on it & it always somehow pulls me to play with it. I would like to step my game as far as skills.Not just beeing a beatmaker but also a producer that can play with instruments.With the MPC tho, Im lacking on the gift & the thirst & dont see how it could enrich me.Nevertheless, thanks again for the kind feedback, I appreciate it.If anybody know somebody that need a MPC, let me know!

What a coincidence, I have been using ableton Live for the whole last year without even thinking about my MPC1k, apart from potentially selling it at some point.

A friend of mine asked me yesterday to bring my mpc to his show saturday, for him to scratch over my live-ish beats.

I turned it on yesterday and next thing you know I think I'm going to stop using Ableton for a while.. Really glad I didn't sell. "Rediscover" is the right term indeed.

I have been however forced to sell my 1st mpc for rent-related issues.. sucked big time but I needed the cash.
