Trouble uploading samples to my MPC1000.

Hi, so I made a thread for this back in July or August and I got some responses but they still didn't solve my problem and the thread was deleted. I've got this MPC1000 and I'm trying to upload samples.

1.) Someone posted a good link to a free file-editing program so that you can edit the specific sample of any song that you want before you even upload it to the MPC, but I can't remember the name of it. Does anyone know of any good free programs to use?

2.) I was able to get one sample onto the memory card. It's only a bout 7 or 8 seconds long I'd say, and the MPC is reading it as being worth 222 KB. I was able to figure out how to get to the screen where I would upload it, but when I press the F6/"Do It" button for that specific file nothing happens. No message comes up or anything and the file never gets uploaded. I tried purging all the unused samples to see if that would make more space fo the file in case that was the problem, but still, nothing changed and the file won't upload.

I've looked at the manual a decent amount and haven't found any answers for this problem, however I'm still new to this. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thank you.

Please make sure that the format of the samples is .wav 16bit 44.1khz

I'm quite sure there are even better programs for sample editing on a computer but the one I use is Audacity. It is open source software, so its free and still has a lot of good features.

Jakoby- Thank you very much for that tip about changing it to a .wav file, I totally never would have thought of that. So, I tried transfering two samples to 16 bit .wave files (each sample was less than 10 seconds each) and now at least when I try to upload them a message pops up on the MPC's screen saying "Insufficient Memory", however they still won't upload. But this is still progress compared to last time when no message would pop up at all.

So now I'm wondering what to do next. It says there is only 12 KB of available .wav space ("Wave Free"), but one of the samples is 1240 KB and the other is 981 KB.nAs I mentioned in my first post, I tried purging the MPC to get rid of any unused samples, but nothing seemed to be deleted or nothing needed to be deleted when that happened.

So I'm confused. I appreciate your help, and I feel like I'm one step closer but something still wrong. Please let me know what you think. Thanks again.

Do you not have a 128MB RAM upgrade installed? If you don't your MPC world will be pretty limited. If it says only 12kb available, I have to guess your MPC is set to autoload either the demo sounds or another program and you only have the 16MB stock memory. Those two samples only add up to around 1.15MB.

PC 133 144PIN CL3 SODIMM 256MB notebook RAM is what you need if you don't have it already. The CL3 is the key spec to look for. But generally any brand that matches these specs will work.

MPC 100 PGM editor apps -

MPC maid will allow to chop a loop and assign it to pads and save it as a PGM. Maybe trim whole songs in Audacity and chop the loop to hits/one shots in the MPC Maid app.

I checked the memory card and it says it's 32MB. I don't see any other samples on here left from the last person (I got it used) so I don't get why there isn't enough memory. I'll keep those RAM updates in mind if I can't figure out any other solution. Thanks. I still feel like there's something else I'm not trying here.

The memory card isn't the memory that would be your concern. I'm talking about the internal sample memory in the machine. Is it the stock 16MB or do you have a 128MB upgrade installed?

Metatron, I'm not sure how to find out how much internal memory I have on it. I did a quick search on google and didn't find any tips for how to do it for the MPC1000. How would I go about finding that?

Now, I know I'll probably get shit on by someone for asking this and not knowing where it is in the manual, but how can I make more free memory space? As I mentioned earlier, I purged the MPC for any unused samples, but it didn't make any difference. Is there anything I can do to make space on my own instead of buying a RAM upgrade or whatever? As far as I know, the only thing uploaded on this thing is the standard sound bites (JJOS, I assume).

16MB is enough to a track but you are limiting yourself to 20 year old limitations. While 128MB is not a lot of RAM it is basically necessary if you want to use the unit without constantly having the issues you're experiencing.

It's like $20 online or from an independent pc shop that has old parts.
