Turntable on the Airplane

Yo fam,
got back from Korea, had such a good time I'm moving over there. I have to take my 1200 and i have a flight case. can't trust taking it through baggage checking, so i'm going to just take it on the overhead bin. even if it's pricey, should be worth taking care of my baby.
any recommendations on making sure the table is sound as a babe? i know planes have slight turbulence, good looks fam!

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like with proper packaging you could send it through cargo in a flight case. Or even ship it with insurance for less than basically paying for an additional plane ticket.

I was sitting at hong kong airport watching a plane get unloaded to kill the time. Those baggage handlers were literally throwing the baggage between carts. At the same time I had all my studio in checked baggage (but well packed in boxes inside suitcases) so I was shitting myself.

It all survived though. But yeah they treat it rough.

Maybe take the platter out and pack that separately in your checked baggage and take the rest on carry on or pack it well and separately in its case in checked. As long as te platter is secured and the tone arm is well protected should be right tho I'd think.

i checked a turntable many times using an ATA odyssey case.

it did break the tonearm lock and the cold i guess shrunk the platter just enough that i couldn't get it off without using a hair dryer

it still survives to this day - if i had to do it again i would remove the platter and really really secure the tonearm.

**** you, I'm taking my turntable IN the plane.

on the same boat as ill. i will never check in my turntable. i know korean air accepts up to 25 lbs for carry on. I'm going to be crazy over, but it will be worth the peace of mind.

so onto the question, if i carryon board the airplane, any precautions?

A 1200 in a well designed/protected flight case is going to be pretty safe....it's a tech, not a Gemini or something, lol. Removing the platter and using zip ties or tape on the tonearm will render that **** near impervious to damage, IMO of course.

An MPC 1000 in a laptop bag in the ....now that's something to worry about!



Carrying on the tech is going to **** with the other passengers, cost you a ton of money and probably make it so the airport security decides to "randomly screen" a ****.... But do you, dude...and good luck in Korea!

i've checked my 1000 in my luggage. packed between clothes. had clothes on the bottom, top and packed in on the sides so my 1k had plenty of cushion. no problems. but the flight case should be good. pack the platter in with your clothes and tape the shizz out of that tone arm and you should be fine.

having ur gear damaged is one thing, but having your gear shipped to another country/continent than where you're at is another....I've had airlines loose my shit before, and shipped to different region
