MPC 2000xl error message!?

Hi,

First post here, but it's been a great source of info and really helped me out when installing my 8 out board!

I've had my 2kXL for around 4 years, and it's never given me any beef. Today though, it hit me with this error message twice in succesion:

It happened after 16 zoning a sample, timestretching it, then zoning the result too. The last two zones of the timestretched sample were blank, and when I hit Main Screen, thats when the error popped up.

I had to turn the MPC off and on again to get any response, losing my samples. After repeating the process, the same thing happened again.

Anybody seen/heard of this? Is it bad news for my MPC?

Does it happen with this sample over and over? Or does it happen to any sample you chop with?

sounds like you need new memory or to just clean the contacts on the old ones.

Only happened with that one sample, and when I went through the same timestretching and zoning process. Although I had to resample the second time, as I lost my data when it crashed, so not strictly the same file but the same sample...

I had a lengthy session saturday night after posting with no more problems, but I definitely panicked a bit when it happened.

I'll have a look at the state of the RAM, as I did move house not long ago and maybe it took a little knock in transit and something's slightly out of place or something. Thanks for the advice on that, tapedeck. I'll get the isopropyl and cotton buds out!

believe or not, a pencil eraser is great for cleaning electronic contacts also.

Yep. All through the 80's and 90's I would take an x-acto knife and cut a right angle wedge out of erasers to clean video game cart contacts.

did this was fixed / repaired ? i have the same error

Fortunately for me it's not happened since! Touch wood. I did take the RAM out and clean the contacts as recommended. Whether that did anything or not, I'm not sure. Either way the MPC works like a charm with no more problems. I suspect I was working it a bit too hard. It is getting on a bit after all. What were you doing when you got the error?
